A Boko Baba Seed, or simply Baba Seed, appears as a barbed purple-and-green seed, the size of the user's fist. This single seed is pure and potent, and as such can be useful as a material to be used by a Botanist. By contrast, a Boko Baba Seed Supply is a collection of less pure seeds which retain the same practical use, but cannot be grown and cultivated by a Botanist. Using just four of these potent seeds, a skilled Botanist can cultivate a Boko Baba Seed Supply.

A Baba Seed's spikes edges make it effective ammunition for a slingshot or shooter, but unlike most mystical seeds, it triggers no special effect on impact. Instead, placing one of these seeds on suitable ground will cause it to quickly sprout and bloom into a Baba Bud, over the course of less than a minute. A Baba Bud is an exotically-colored bud, up to three feet (or a meter) across. The user or one of their allies, can step into the bud, which will cause the bud to immediately begin to "chew" on the user as if he was an insect the bud was attempting to digest. After a brief moment, the plant will realize its mistake, and violently--but consistently--spit the user straight up into the air. The distance shot varies by size and weight, but a typical Hylian will be shot to ten to twenty feet up. Heavier races like Gorons, or larger races like Lynels and Darknuts, may be unable to leap more than a couple feet.

If watered and otherwise cared for, a Baba Bud can mature into a full Boko Baba. If done manually, this will take about an hour. Spells or other effects which hasten plant growth can do so almost instantly. A Boko Baba is a violent and carnivorous, but stationary, plant monster which attacks all living beings near it in the attempt to consume and digest them in its jaw-like petals. A Boko Baba stands roughly 2 meters (or 6 feet) tall, and can lunge out a similar distance from the point where it was planted.

When used by a Botanist, these seeds are useful for creating an effect related to the Forest field. It is particularly associated with growing plants like Baba Buds and plant-monsters like Boko Babas.

Seed Effects

By using three Baba Seeds, along with at least three other seeds, a Botanist is able to create a Seed Supply with one of the following effects. These effects will combine with the effects of other seed types used as materials.

Effect Name Description of Effect
Baba The normal effect of a Baba Seed occurs.
Vine After the seed impacts a surface, it will glue itself in place with an extremely sticky sap, then immediately sprout a sturdy, rope-like vine up to a meter (or three feet) in length. The seed can be removed with water or carefully wedging a fingernail underneath it, but is almost impossible to remove just by pulling. The created vine can be useful for distracting a foe, making a foe vulnerable, climbing flat surfaces, among other uses. The vine crumbles apart in less than a minute after it grows.
Grass When one of these seeds is broken open against the ground with an impact--assuming the ground is some form of earth or water, including dirt, sand, lava, freshwater, mud, ice, saltwater, or tile--it bursts apart to create a small patch of warm, grassy terrain several inches thick. This grassy terrain is unusual in that is unaffected by the temperature or consistency of the terrain beneath or surrounding it. As such, it can allow safe travel across otherwise impassable surfaces, such as lava or water. In less than a minute's time, the grassy terrain returns to normal.

Elixir Effects

Baba Seeds can also be combined with specific quantities of other seeds to create a PerQuest Elixir with one of the following effects. As usual, the Botanist is able to produce multiple elixirs if her Botanist level is high enough.

Elixir Name Seeds Resulting Effect
Deku Baba Fertilizer 1 Baba + 1 Deku This bottled fertilizer can be spread across an area up to thirty feet (or 10 meters) across. Seconds after it is placed, up to seven carnivorous Deku Baba plants will sprout up, each about as tall as an adult Hylian. Alternatively, three Big Deku Babas will sprout up, each twice the height of an adult Hylian. Regardless of their size, are stationary, but will lunge with a vicious bite at anyone who gets too close.
Fire Baba Fertilizer 1 Baba + 1 Ember This bottled fertilizer can be spread across an area up to thirty feet (or 10 meters) across. Seconds after it is placed, up to three carnivorous plants known as Fire Babas will sprout up, each about as tall as an adult Hylian. They are stationary, but will automatically defend themselves from attacks by spitting small fireballs at anyone who approaches them. An organic creature who nears too close to the Baba is likely to get bitten or swallowed, and the Baba's fiery bite is known to be extremely painful.
Ice Baba Fertilizer 1 Baba + 1 Chill This bottled fertilizer can be spread across an area up to thirty feet (or 10 meters) across. Seconds after it is placed, up to three carnivorous plants known as Ice Babas will sprout up, each about as tall as an adult Hylian. They are stationary, but will automatically defend themselves from attacks by spitting small balls of Ice at anyone who approaches them. An organic creature who nears too close to the Baba is likely to get bitten or swallowed, and the Baba's frosty bite is known to be extremely painful.
Spark Baba Fertilizer 1 Baba + 1 Crackle This bottled fertilizer can be spread across an area up to thirty feet (or 10 meters) across. Seconds after it is placed, up to three carnivorous plants known as Spark Babas will sprout up, each about as tall as an adult Hylian. They are stationary, but will automatically defend themselves from attacks by spitting small balls of magical electricity at anyone who approaches them. An organic creature who nears too close to the Baba is likely to get bitten or swallowed, and the Baba's electric bite is known to shoot right through armor.
Deku Skin Potion 2 Baba + 2 Armor Immediately after this potion is drunk the user's skin becomes as hard as the bark of an oak tree, but no less flexible. This is even harder than a Deku Scrub's or Goron's skin, and functions similar to metallic scalemail. However, akin to its namesake, the potion imposes Fire Weakness unless the drinker has some means of negating such a weakness. This effect lasts for several minutes, but generally no more than ten.
Mobile Baba 2 Baba + 2 Cloud This bottled fertilizer can be spread across an area up to thirty feet (or 10 meters) across. Seconds after it is placed, up to three carnivorous Deku Baba plants will sprout up, each about as tall as an adult Hylian. Each springs out of the ground, rooted deeply in a cloud, granting the Babas mobility. Each is able to move at roughly the walking pace of a Hylian.
Red Potion 3 Baba + 3 Breath + 3 Gasha When the potion is consumed, the drinker will be immediately revitalized and healed of all non-fatal physical injuries, but not afflictions such as poisons, diseases, or curses.

Trivia

  • The Boko Baba Seed (material) treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Doc Genz. It was based on the canonical Baba Buds which appear in The Wind Waker. More about Baba Buds can likely be found on ZeldaWiki.
  • The Red Potion canonically appears in the Zelda series, initially in The Legend of Zelda. More information about the canonical version of the potion can likely be found on Zelda Wiki.
  • Most other Seed Effects and Elixir Effects are original creations of Hyrule Castle's members.
