On its own, a '''Shield Ring''' appears as a small jewelry ring to be worn on the finger, with a silver hoop and a gem in the shape of a kite shield.

At will, the wearer of this ring can cause a sudden light to grow from the ring, forming over his hand what appears to be a semitransparent shield out of light. Despite its appearance, this shield is as heavy, sturdy, and dense as a typical steel shield. The shield is only as wide as the user's forearm, and is usually of a round shape, but can also take on a kite shape if the wearer wills it. While this shield is primarily used for martial defense, it exudes a clear white light with luminosity comparable to a torch.

Once a shield is created, the wearer can only cause it to disappear by removing the ring, or breaking the shield itself.
