An Imprint Crystal is a very rare, highly valuable gem which so far has only been found in the deepest, most mystical of caverns. It typically appears as semitransparent white octahedron, small enough to disappear in a Hylian's palm.
While holding one of these crystals, the holder can concentrate intensely on a spell or technique he is able to use. By mentally going through the ability's detail and execution several times, the user will gradually forget how to use it entirely and permanently. All the knowledge and skill the user once had for that ability has been stored in the crystal. The user, or another individual, can then absorb the crystal either by swallowing it or crushing it in their palm. In doing so, that person masters the ability almost instantly.
Although a Major Treasure could be passed in this way, it would still be subject the normal limit imposed on Major Treasures.
Because of its rarity and expense, an Imprint Crystal is generally impractical to acquire and use. Despite this, some curious shopkeepers are known to have a seemingly unlimited amount available for their own purposes.
Trivia
- Notably, an Imprint Crystal is the only known way to directly pass a technique or spell from one character to another. Comparatively, item-based treasures can be exchanged freely, and traits cannot be passed at all.
- The Imprint Crystal treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy.
