Dowsing is a utility spell, useful for locating objects the user has touched. This treasure is a racial perk for Kikwis. As such, a Kikwi can choose to gain it as a perk upon character creation. If a Kikwi chooses to gain this perk at some point after creation, the perk costs 15 rupees less than the listed cost.

Casting this spell requires two distinct components. The user must first physically touch a part of an object or being to be found (such as a piece of gold, or hair from a missing person), the "essence" to be used while dowsing. Once the caster has a dowsing essence, she can then imbue this essence into the tip of any oblong instrument she can wield--such as cane, a sword, or a fork. The enchanted instrument will vibrate when its tip is pointed in the direction of the object to be found. If the object is near, the instrument will vibrate more violently than if it is far. Though it is difficult to detect vibrations from extremely far distances, Dowsing can work from on practically any object in all of Hyrule, regardless of distance.

The instrument will continue to vibrate like this until it is affected by another spell, it touches the object to be found, or the caster places a Dowsing enchantment on a new instrument. The caster can also end the effect at will.

Cost
10 rupees

The user can gain the Multiple Instruments augment simultaneously with the original treasure for an additional cost, or as a separate treasure at a later time. A caster with this augment is able to enchant up to 10 different instruments simultaneously, and can even enchant different instruments to locate different objects.

Trivia

  • This treasure's ability to find specific objects is similar to the Compass. The latter does not require the user to touch a piece of the object to be found, but works over a much shorter distance.
  • The Dowsing treasure canonically appears in the Zelda series, initially in Skyward Sword. More information about the canonical version of this treasure can likely be found on Zelda Wiki.
