Commshell
Type Utility Organic Item
Fields Communicate, Sense, Sound, Water
Cost 10 rupees

A commshell appears as a castropod (spiral) seashell of varying color, usually of a size equivalent to a Hylian's hand. One of these is intended to be able to communicate with other commshells, and thus one is useless by itself. When two commshells are connected, sounds which enter one can immediately be heard coming out of the other. Strangely, the shell will only transfer sound while it is held in the hand. A commshell will receive sound from whoever sends it, but can effectively be muted if it is stuffed with cotton or another sound-absorbing material.

For one commshell to establish a connection with another, the two must come into physical contact, and sustain contact for nearly a minute. The wielder of a commshell can choose to transmit sound to any or every commshell with which he has established such a connection. He cannot, however, transmit sound to a commshell which his own shell has never touched.

15 rupees

The user can gain the Transfer Shell augment simultaneously with the original treasure for an additional cost, or as a separate treasure at a later time. Using a bit of ingenuity, a commshell can be modified to be capable of transporting not only sound, but any physical items which are narrow enough to fit though the shell's opening (which is about a 3" diameter slightly-oblong circle). This primarily includes rupees, seeds, and liquids. Only the sending shell needs the augment, not the recipient shell.

Trivia

  • The Pirate's Charm has a similar capability for long-distance communication, but only works between the holder of the stone and the owner of the stone.
  • The Commshell treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy.
