A Glow Seed appears as a small fruit, yellowish-white in color. This single seed is pure and potent, and as such can be useful as a material to be used by a Botanist. By contrast, a Glow Seed Supply is a collection of less pure seeds which retain the same practical use, but cannot be grown and cultivated by a Botanist. Using just four of these potent seeds, a skilled Botanist can cultivate a Glow Seed Supply.
When a Glow Seed is struck against a hard surface, or otherwise broken open, it bursts open with a brightly glowing powder which clings to nearby objects. The dust can light up a small room, or mark a veiled subject to visibly track its location. The dust has a tendency to rub off on what it touches, so a person walking through it will typically leave numerous footprints behind. Finally, any creature aligned with darkness--such as an undead monster or a being with a Dark Affinity--comes into contact with the glowing dust, they will find it extremely itchy, hot, or otherwise irritating. This irritation doesn't cause lasting damage, but will distract the afflicted being from casting spells, or ward off its approach. The glowing dust, and all of its effects, will end after several minutes' time.
When used by a Botanist, these seeds are useful for creating an effect related to the Light field.
Seed Effects
By using three Glow Seeds, along with at least three other seeds, a Botanist is able to create a Seed Supply with one of the following effects. These effects will combine with the effects of other seed types used as materials.
Effect Name | Description of Effect |
---|---|
Glow | The normal effect of a Glow Seed occurs. |
Glimmer | When the seed impacts a surface or is eaten, the affected object or individual glows brightly for several minutes. Most undead creatures or being with a dark affinity will avoid this glow if possible. |
Holy Veil | As long as one seed is held in the user's palm, they will suffer far less damage from Shadow attacks than usual. This effectively negates any weakness to shadow the user may have. It has a side effect of making it easy to ignore thoughts the holder finds to be "impure" or "wrong." |
Illuminate | After the seed is eaten, the user will be able to see in darkness for several minutes. Unlike most Glow Seed effects, this does not create light in of itself. |
Light Punch | After one seed is eaten, the next physical contact the eater makes will cause a stunning impact which inflicts Light damage, and glows brightly. Indirect hits, such as from a sword or projectile, are unaffected. |
Purge | When the seed is eaten, the user's body is abruptly cleansed of any curses or dark energies that may be afflicting it, including effects such as Jinx or Hex. This backfires against particularly strong curses, as beings who are undead or have a Dark Affinity instead suffer immense, convulsing pain that lasts several minutes. |
Elixir Effects
Glow Seeds can also be combined with specific quantities of other seeds to create a PerQuest Elixir with one of the following effects. As usual, the Botanist is able to produce multiple elixirs if her Botanist level is high enough.
Elixir Name | Seeds | Resulting Effect |
---|---|---|
Spark Stick | 1 Glow + 1 Crackle | When uncorked, this bottle will produce from its mouth a solid saber three feet long, which is weightless but impacts other objects as though it was solid. By gripping the bottle from which it is produced, it can be wielded like a sword. The "blade" of this sword is blunt like a club, glows brightly, and intensely electrifies any conducting object that touches it. After a couple minutes, the saber fades away. |
Bottled Sunlight | 2 Glow + 2 Ember | By uncorking or breaking this bottle, a small orange orb pops out and floats high above the user. It emits a bright, whitish-yellow light that fills the area. This light has a strange effect of driving away mist, fog, or smoke. Creatures sensitive to light, such as undead or those with a Dark Affinity, find this light unpleasant will seek to avoid it, but do not take any damage from it. The orb will follow the user for several minutes, after which it will stop moving, and then remain in place for about an hour, before finally transforming into impotent powder. |
Mirror Oil | 2 Glow + 2 Armor | This oil can be splashed or smeared across any surface up to about 9 square feet (or 3 square feet). For the next several minutes, the surface becomes an extremely clear mirror. This surface pristine reflects not only light, but magical projectiles, such as those produced by magical items and spells. This effect is similar to that of a Mirror Shield or other object crafted from Mirror Silver. |
Beam Oil | 4 Glow + 4 Razor | This oil can be quickly applied to a melee weapon or the user's bare hands. After applied, swinging the weapon or thrusting the hand forward will cause a beam to launch from the tip. This beam can shoot up to, roughly, 30 feet (or 10 meters). It has speed comparable to a fastball, force comparable to a strong punch, and inflicts Light damage. Once the first beam is shot, this oil will lose its effect after a couple minutes. |
Eyebeam Potion | 4 Glow + 4 Pegasus | After drinking this potion, the user is able to magically fire bright, painfully hot laser beams from her eyes. If the user attempts to stare with the beams continuously for more than a few seconds, however, her eyes become irritated and she is force to blink repeatedly to remove the irritation. These beams have a nearly infinite range and reach their target almost immediately. However, the beams are not hot enough to sprout flames, and are almost always nonlethal. After a few minutes, the drinker will lose this ability. |
Ally of Light | 4 Glow + 4 Magic | Dumping this bottle onto the ground creates a Hylian-like creature who glows a yellow color, wielding metallic armor, shield, and sword which similarly glows. It is as intelligent as a Hylian, but cannot speak. Flinging the contents of this bottle into the air spawns four to seven Tiny Fairies, which notably lack healing abilities or other spells beyond the ability to fly. Regardless of the creature created, it is inclined to follow the others of whoever created it. In less than a couple minutes, the creature(s) will abruptly vanish into smoke. |
Trivia
