This bizarre treasure inflicts the user himself with what would normally be considered a negative effect. How the Curse inflicts the user can vary widely, as can its effect. When gaining the curse, you can choose one of the following effects to be inflicted. Generally, any effect which is purely negative can be used as alternative (such as losing the capacity to cast Spells). Any negative effect which isn't magical or extraordinary (such as losing a limb in an accident, or gaining a terminal illness) can be gained freely, without the use of a treasure.
Curses with Beneficial Effects
Although a typical curse is purely harmful and can be acquired for free, gaining any one of the following curses costs rupees, as noted below.
Name | Cost | Effect |
---|---|---|
Curse of Time Passed |
40 | The user will find their body's age permanently altered, making them older or younger--sometimes dramatically so. While the curse does not affect the user's mind directly, he may also find an altered mentality, his personality or mindset changed accordingly with the physical state of their body. This effect can be undone by gaining this variant of the Curse again. |
Curse of Dark Mirror |
40 | The user is afflicted as if he looked into a Dark Mirror. |
Curse of Bestial Form |
40 | The user is forced into an animal-like form, thereby gaining the Bestial Form treasure. |
Curse of Flora |
40 | The user's body transforms freakishly into one which seems to function as a plant, effectively gaining Plant Composition. |
Curse of Heat |
40 | The user's body becomes incredibly hot, rendering them weak to cold--even room temperatures--without some kind of protection. In effect, the user gains Infernal Composition. |
Curse of Cold |
40 | The user's body becomes incredibly cold, rendering them weak to heat--even room temperatures--without some kind of protection. In effect, the user gains Frigid Composition. |
Curse of Lost Form |
50 | The user will find his body physically changed into a weaker form, such as a frog, rat, pig, ChuChu, or Keese. The user's mind will remain physically intact, and he will be able to use any abilities which do not rely on physical features he no longer has. This effect can be undone by gaining this variant of the Curse again. Optionally, this curse can be used to turn a normal character into an Unusual Companion. |
Curse of Undeath |
60 | The user becomes undead, and likely suffers from unsightly physical mutations. |
Curse of Gills |
60 | The user becomes amphibious, and likely suffers from unsightly physical mutations. |
Curse of Changed Race |
60 | The user's race permanently changes to another playable race, robbing him of any innate distinct racial perks he had previously, and forcing on him any innate racial perk of his new form. |
For the purpose of Specialty or other treasures, when you gain one of these beneficial curses, the curse is treated as though it had the field(s) of any treasure it emulates.
Trivia
- Whereas the Curse of Changed Race is permanent, a Transformation Mask can be used for temporary transformation into another race.
- The Curse treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Ribitta. Most alternate effects of Curse have been created after the original treasure was introduced.
