Due to the difficulty of working with this material, it cannot be made into metallic armor, but can be made into a form similar to leather.  A Tailor can use a single supply of Dodongo Hide to craft a functional Goron Tunic, or other clothing which has similar properties of protecting its wearer from heat.  Whatever clothing is produced must cover the majority of the user's body to offer protection in the same way as a Goron Tunic.  A particularly skilled Tailor can combine Dodongo Hide with other Tailor Materials to combine their effects into one piece of clothing.

Specific Quantification
For most characters, knowing Dodongo Hide protects from heat is is sufficient, but occasionally the exact extent by which it protects may become necessary information.  To quantify the hide's protection, it will effectively reduce any temperature above room temperature by approximately 90%.  Since room temperature is about 70°F, the wearer can treat 300°F as if it was 93°F. (The actual temperature of 300°F is subtracted from room temperature of approximately 70°F, leaving a difference of 230°F.  From there, 90% of 230°F is 23°F. Then, 23°F is added to 70°F to determine the approximate temperature felt by the wearer, which in this case is 93°F.  Using 90% decrease functions for both Fahrenheit and Celsius measurements of temperature.)  The exact degree an individual can endure underneath Dodongo Hide thus varies on his or her personal endurance, but can be useful for any wearer who isn't completely impervious to heat.

Dodongo Hide
Type Defensive Organic Item
Fields Fire, Protect
Cost 20 rupees

Dodongo Hide is primarily used as a material for a skilled Outfitter. The hide itself usually appears as a dark green, like the skin of most Dodongo beasts, but often takes on a red hue when treated and tailored. The material itself is extremely resistant to heat and lava, and seems impossible to damage, burn, or melt with even the greatest of heat. It likewise doesn't transfer heat through it. This treasure represents the total hide one could expect to get from slaying and expertly skinning your typical Dodongo, and thus makes for a slightly large blanket. The typical adventurer doesn't have a use for it other than using it as a blanket, or haphazardly trying to wrap themselves in it as some form of protection.

When used as a material, Dodongo Hide can create one of two different effects. Either effect is able to negate any Fire Weakness of the wearer.

 • Fire Armor: Clothing or armor must cover the user's torso, and occupies the appropriate outfitter slot. The clothing enables the wearer to be comfortable even in extremely hot environments, and protects the wearer from catching flame. Fire, heat, and flame-based attacks will be less dangerous to the wearer, but can still inflict damage.
 • Fire Shield: The effect is slightly less potent than the Armor, but can be applied to any garment that occupies one of the five outfitter slots. First, if fire sprouts up anywhere on the user's body or clothing, the garment will activate within a few seconds to extinguish the flames, and keep them from spreading. This does not prevent or heal any damage initially dealt. Second, when the user is exposed to almost any hot environment, the garment will use magic to slowly adapt the user's body to the temperature of the surrounding environment, over the course of about a minute.

Trivia

 • Like Dodongo Hide protects from heat, similar Tailor materials can provide protection from other danger sources: White Hide protects from cold, Silver Scales protect from drowning and water damage, Lightning Weave Cloth protects from electricity, Gratitude Crystals protect from Light damage, and Evil Crystals protect from Shadow damage.
 • The Dodongo Hide (material) treasure does not appear verbatim within the official Zelda series. However, it can be interpreted to exist from context, initially so in Ocarina of Time.
