Fields Protect, Water, Zora
Cost 20 rupees

Silver Scales are a material to be used by an Outfitter to craft armor or another garment worn on the torso. These appear as shimmering scales shed by one or more Sea Zora, though typically lose their silvery sheen when forged into armor. Holding one of these scales has a strange effect, causing the holder to psychologically feel like he can hold his breath longer, and dive deeper, underwater.

An appropriately skilled Outfitter can use one instance of Silver Scales to craft a functional Zora Tunic, Mermaid Suit, or other clothing which has similar properties of protecting its wearer from water and drowning. Whatever clothing is produced must cover the majority of the user's body--especially the torso--to offer protection in the same way as a Zora Tunic. That is, whoever wears a piece made from Silver Scales will be mostly protected from water damage, and cannot drown in water for so long as it is worn. While the forceful impact of water can still cause harm, soaking in calm water for any length of time will not cause harm to the wearer. The wearer will also negate any weakness to water he or she would otherwise have, making it particularly useful for Koroks, Subrosians, and Deku Scrubs.

Trivia

  • Like Silver Scales protect from water, similar materials can provide protection from other danger sources: Dodongo Hide protects from heat, White Hide protects from cold, Lightning Weave Cloth protects from electricity, Gratitude Crystals protect from Light damage, and Evil Crystals protect from Shadow damage.
  • The Silver Scale (material) treasure does not appear verbatim within the official Zelda series. However, it can be interpreted to exist from context, initially so in Ocarina of Time.
