A Gossip Stone is an immobile slab of stone emblazed with a eye symbol of the Sheikah. It is generally two to three feet tall, but can vary widely beyond that range. It has a variety of bizarre effects.

If struck, it will vibrate wildly and announce the current time. When an explosive detonates in contact with a stone, the stone has a completely inexplicable habit of counting down to three, before launching into the air with jet propulsion fired from its underside. If the site of the stone is revisited later, it will once again be connected to the ground in the same spot.

A Gossip Stone seems to have an esoteric mind of its own, and has a strange habit of remembering anything which is seen or heard in its vicinity. So far as is known, it will only communicate with a being who wears a Mask of Truth. Which such a being, it will occasionally provide seemingly random facts it has overheard or seen. When asked about something specific, it will occasionally provide details about the desired information, albeit usually in a cryptic manner. It otherwise does not converse.

Trivia

  • Several items are supposedly created from Gossip Stones, including the Pirate's Charm and the Spectacles of Agony.
  • The Gossip Stone treasure canonically appears in the Zelda series, initially in Ocarina of Time. More information about the canonical version of this treasure can likely be found on Zelda Wiki.
