Fungal Flashwood is a material which a skilled Outfitter can imbue into any item they craft, and a Weaponsmith can imbue into a shield. A raw hunk of Fungal Flashwood appears like a large log, which has an unusual tendency to grow mushrooms or other fungus on its surface.
When imbued into an object, the object gains a rough, bark-like texture. When the object is left alone, it grows bulbous mushroom-like growths which are usually of an off-white color. When one of these growths is struck or pierced with even mild force, it explodes apart, and caused all other mushrooms on the item to immediately explode as well. The explosion causes a blindingly bright flash, and fills a small area with clouds of opaque, green spores. These spores block sight in the same way a thick fog does, and will likely induce choking, but do not impose any long-term harm. The size of the cloud produced depends on the size of an object, but a shield sized for a Hylian could produce a cloud about six feet (or two meters) across.
After the mushrooms explode, they will autonomously regrow after several minutes. Treasures which enhance the growing speed of plants or fungus cause Flashwood mushrooms to regrow instantly.
The Fungal Flashwood (material) treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy.
