Guided Bolt is an offensive spell. Casting it requires the user to focus for about a second on his hand, or an implement held in his hand.
Once cast, a serpentine bolt of electricity crawls out of the implement or hand and begins to move forward at a constant speed of about 20mph (or a little over 30 km/h). This speed is a bit faster than most Hylians could sprint, but far slower than a thrown object would travel. The bolt is about arm's length, and moves in a zig-zag pattern like a slithering snake. So long as the caster remains in place, she can mentally change the direction of the bolt, which can turn in any direction as tightly as a snake could--and potentially chase its target. If the caster moves from the position she held while casting the spell, either by her own will or forcefully, she can no longer change the direction of the bolt. Once the bolt impacts a surface, it is shocked with a painful amount of electricity, usually enough to cause a significant burn and potentially incapacitate a weakened enemy. If the bolt never impacts a surface and the caster never moves position, the caster would be able to control the bolt's direction indefinitely.
The caster can only create one Guided Bolt at a time. After the bolt impacts a surface, she cannot create another for 3 minutes. With one level of Magic Power, she only needs to wait 1 minute. With two levels of Magic Power, she need only wait 20 seconds.
Trivia
- Several other treasures allow the 'bending' of an elemental projectile, including Din's Burst and the Cane of Mago. Compared to these, Guided Bolt offers more control but less speed.
- The Guided Bolt treasure does not appear verbatim within the official Zelda series. However, it does appear in Super Smash Bros. Melee. In this game, it is a technique called PK Thunder, used by Ness.
