This bizarre treasure inflicts the user himself with what would normally be considered a negative effect. How the Curse inflicts the user can vary widely, as can its effect. When gaining the curse, you can choose one of the following effects to be inflicted. Generally, any effect which is purely negative can be used as alternative (such as losing the capacity to cast Spells). Any negative effect which isn't magical or extraordinary (such as losing a limb in an accident, or gaining a terminal illness) can be gained freely, without the use of a treasure.

  • Curse of Time Passed: The user will find their body's age permanently altered, making them older or younger--sometimes dramatically so. While the curse does not affect the user's mind directly, he may also find an altered mentality, his personality or mindset changed accordingly with the physical state of their body. This effect can be undone by gaining this variant of the Curse again.
  • Curse of Dark Mirror: The user is afflicted as if he looked into a Dark Mirror.
  • Curse of Lost Form: The user will find his body physically changed into a weaker form, such as a frog, rat, pig, ChuChu, or Keese. The user's mind will remain physically intact, and he will be able to use any abilities which do not rely on physical features he no longer has. This effect can be undone by gaining this variant of the Curse again.
  • Curse of Changed Race: This variant of the curse costs 100 rupees, instead of the normal 50. The user's race permanently changes to another playable race, robbing him of any innate distinct racial perks he had previously, and forcing on him any innate racial perk of his new form. Whenever this curse is gained, even to change back into the user's original form, it costs an additional 50 rupees (100 for the 1st time, 150 for 2nd, 200 for 3rd, etc).

Trivia

  • Whereas the Curse of Changed Race is permanent, a Transformation Mask can be used for temporary transformation into another race.
  • The Curse treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Ribitta.
