A Loftwing is an uncommon companion which appears as a large, round-billed bird, with white feathers on its underside and brightly-colored plumes on its backside. The size of an adult loftwing is comparable to particularly large draft horses, though younger or smaller variants can be more comparable to ponies.
Certain skilled Hylians are able to tame strong loftwings into flying, obedient mounts. This treasure normally represents such a loftwing, which has been trained to be rode by its owner. Most loftings are able to rode by most races which are neither larger nor heavier than Hylians themselves. With a rider, a loftwing is able to fly for periods lasting a few hours at most.
If a rider has bonded well with his loftwing, he is able to sense the general direction and status of his loftwing by using the Sense ability.
As an Unusual Character
A loftwing can be made into an unusual character. Such a character begins with 70 rupees less than normal. A loftwing character may begin with any one universal Racial Perk, even if the chosen perk would normally occupy more than one "perk slot." A loftwing's starting PWC is either 2/1/1 or 1/1/2, and it has 1 less point than normal with which to increase its starting PWC score.
In Hyrule, it's common for loftwings to have intelligence comparable to Hylians. As such, many loftwings may be capable of conscious thought, and are able to think and reason just like more intelligent races do. Such a loftwing may be able to communicate with other animals, but cannot fluently communicate with language-speaking races without a treasure like Language of Fauna.
As a loftwing lacks hands and is unable to speak, it may be incapable of gaining or using certain treasures, even if it possesses conscious thought.
Trivia
The Loftwing Companion treasure canonically appears in the Zelda series, initially in Skyward Sword. More information about the canonical version of this treasure can likely be found on Zelda Wiki.
