A Bolt Ball Rod appears as a rubber-like cane usually of length comparable to one's forearm. At one end if it is a circular plate, slightly convex so it bends outward at the edges like a bowl. Its effect can be activated when the wielder concentrates his strength into the rod, which, with practice, only takes a momentary focus.

When activated, at the rod's tip will a spherical ball of crackling lightning, hovering just off the surface. The wielder can choose to have the ball stay on the rod's rip as a formidable melee weapon, or be thrown or shot with a bit of focus and a heavy swing. If thrown, the ball will bounce powerfully off any solid surface, electrifying it in the process. Its potential to bounce is particularly high--when dropped, the ball will reach back up to half its drop height, so flinging the sphere at high speed can cause it to ricochet many times. The ball will continue to bounce until it either strikes a body of water, or loses enough momentum to stop bouncing, at which point it will dissipate into thin air.

A Bolt Ball Rod can be used to "catch" these Bolt Ball projectiles (even those created from other rods), which causes the ball to behave again as if it was just formed. Normally, a single rod can only have one ball created at a time. Attempting to create a new one causes the previous one to dissipate instantly.

Augment

Plus-One-Ball
Additional
Cost
10 rupees

The user can gain the Plus-One-Ball augment simultaneously with the original treasure for an additional cost, or as a separate treasure at a later time. A rod with this augment can produce and maintain an additional Bolt Ball simultaneously. If two exist, attempting to create a new one will replace the oldest ball.

This augment can be gained twice, allowing a maximum of up to three Bolt Balls to be created simultaneously from one rod.
