Contrary to its name, a Razor Seed appears as a small fist-shaped seed, of a reddish-orange color.
When one of these seeds is eaten, the eater feels a momentary surge of power not unlike adrenaline. For up to a couple minutes, the user is able to strike noticeably harder with melee attacks. Repetitive use of this effect in a short period is prone to backfiring and causing a lethargic effect for several minutes instead.
When used by a Botanist, these seeds are useful for creating an effect related to the Empower field. It is particularly associated with offensive effects.
Seed Effects
By using three Razor Seeds, along with at least three other seeds, a Botanist is able to create a Seed Supply with one of the following effects. These effects will combine with the effects of other seed types used as materials.
Effect Name | Description of Effect |
---|---|
Razor | The normal effect of a Razor Seed occurs. |
Needle | The created seed supply comes in the form of wood-like needles, which can be used as melee weapons, applied to the tips of arrows, thrown like normal seeds, or used as slingshot and shooter ammunition like normal seeds. |
Coating | This effect can only be combined with another seed effect that triggers on impact. The created seeds can be gently broken open to secret an oil which can be used to coat a weapon. The coated weapon will then, on its next impact, create the effect the seed normally would on impact. The application process is delicate, and thus generally cannot be done in the middle of combat. Only one of these coatings can be applied to a weapon at a time, and cannot be combined with similar elixir-based coatings. These seeds cannot create the normal impact effect on their own.|- |
Elixir Effects
Razor Seeds can also be combined with specific quantities of other seeds to create a PerQuest Elixir with one of the following effects. As usual, the Botanist is able to produce multiple elixirs if her Botanist level is high enough.
Elixir Name | Seeds | Resulting Effect |
---|---|---|
Null Oil | 1 Razor + 1 Scent | Coating or splashing a magical item with this oil will cause its magical properties to abruptly cease functioning. Similarly, any enchanted item will return to normal. The affected item cannot be enchanted. This effect lingers until the item is submerged in clean, fresh water, or removed by another treasure's special effect. |
Bottled Trap | 2 Razor + 2 Deku | This potion appears to be a thick black fluid. When dumped onto dirt or sand, however, the fluid rapidly forms a pit trap in a matter of seconds. A hole nine feet deep and three feet wide appears on the ground, lined at the bottom with wooden spikes capable of skewering enemies. The hole is covered with a pile of leaves braced in place, which will almost surely give way as soon as someone steps on them. |
Scorch Oil | 4 Razor + 4 Ember | This oil can be applied to one ore more melee weapons, or the tips of an ammunition supply, in advance. On the next impact, the affected weapon will burst with flames, causing an effect similar to a Fire Enchantment. After the first impact, the affected weapon(s) will continue to cause such impacts for a period lasting less than a couple minutes. Unlike magical flames, the fire produced from Scorch Oil can harm the user. |
Freeze Oil | 4 Razor + 4 Chill | This oil can be applied to one ore more melee weapons, or the tips of an ammunition supply, in advance. On the next impact, the affected weapon will burst with an aura frigid cold, causing an effect similar to an Ice Enchantment. After the first impact, the affected weapon(s) will continue to cause such impacts for a period lasting less than a couple minutes. Unlike magical cold, the cold produced from Freeze Oil can harm the user. |
Charged Oil | 4 Razor + 4 Crackle | This oil can be applied to one ore more melee weapons, or the tips of an ammunition supply, in advance. On the next impact, the affected weapon will burst with electricity, causing an effect similar to a Shock Enchantment. After the first impact, the affected weapon(s) will continue to cause such impacts for a period lasting less than a couple minutes. Unlike magical electricity, the electricity produced from Charged Oil can harm the user. |
Blast Coating | 4 Razor + 4 Bomb | This oil can be applied to one ore more melee weapons, or the tips of an ammunition supply, in advance. On the next impact, the affected weapon will create an explosion on impact comparable half the force of a normal Bomb. Using this effect more than a few times, even on steel weapons, can end up destroying the weapon. Regardless, once this effect begins, it fades in less than a couple minutes. |
Beam Oil | 4 Razor + 4 Glow | This oil can be quickly applied to a melee weapon or the user's bare hands. After applied, swinging the weapon or thrusting the hand forward will cause a beam to launch from the tip. This beam can shoot up to, roughly, 30 feet (or 10 meters). It has speed comparable to a fastball, force comparable to a strong punch, and inflicts Light damage. Once the first beam is shot, this oil will lose its effect after a couple minutes. |
Trivia
- The Razor Seed (material) treasure canonically appears in the Zelda series, initially in Four Swords. More information about the canonical version of this treasure can likely be found on Zelda Wiki. In their canonical appearance, the effect of these seeds was much more powerful, but they were also particularly rare.
- Most Seed Effects and Elixir Effects are original creations of Hyrule Castle's members.
