An Imprint Crystal is a very rare, highly valuable gem which so far has only been found in the deepest, most mystical of caverns. It typically appears as semitransparent white octahedron, small enough to disappear in a Hylian's palm.

While holding one of these crystals, the holder can concentrate intensely on a spell or technique he is able to use. By mentally going through the ability's detail and excecution several times, the user will gradually forget how to use that ability, and finally forget how to use it entirely, permanently. All the knowledge and skill the user once had for that ability has been stored in the crystal. The user, or another individual, can then absorb the crystal either by swallowing it or crushing it in their palm. In doing so, that person learns or masters the ability almost instantly.

Because of its rarity and expense, an Imprint Crystal is generally impractical to acquire and use. Despite this, certain curious shopkeepers are known to have a seemingly unlimited amount available for their own purposes.
