Call Thunder is a powerful but risky technique used to call a bolt of lightning, which can only be used under specific circumstances.
To attempt to use it, all the user needs to do is throw back his head and roar out a specific word or phrase. The exact word(s) vary from one user to another. After one or two seconds, a large bolt of lightning will streak down from the sky and electrocute the user intensely. Anyone touching him in a way that allows electricity to travel will receive an extremely painful shock. Similarly, anyone who comes into the line of lightning over the user's head will be shocked even more brutally, to the extent unconsciousness is a likely--but not necessary--result. Unless the user has some form of protection from the bolt, he will receive the greatest damage of all, and likely pass out. Sufficient protection can reduce the damage to a mildly painful shock that stuns him, but the damage to the user can never be completely negated, even by major treasures.
Due to the nature of this technique, it cannot be used at any point when there are no natural clouds overhead. Thus, on a cloudless day, underground, inside, or in an extradimensional realm, among other possibilities, the technique cannot be used at all.
Although the user can Call Thunder as much as he wishes, even with protection it has severe drawbacks if used repeatedly over a short duration. One use every battle is generally safe, but much more than that risks burns, nervous system injuries, or even brain damage.
Trivia
- While protective gear made from Lightning Weave Cloth is perhaps the most convenient way the user can protect himself from this technique, other potential options include Brace or Nayru's Love.
- Calm Weather can be used to prevent the use of this technique, while Song of Storms allows it to be used anywhere where the sky is visible.
- The Call Thunder treasure does not appear verbatim within the official Zelda series. However, it does appear in Super Smash Bros.. In that series, "Thunder" is a move used by Pikachu.
