The Ring of Deuce is a powerful and highly versatile magical item, appearing as a small silver ring of a bizarre design. This is a Major treasure. A character who has never gained a Major treasure may gain this treasure normally. Otherwise, the character must first acquire Major Gain specifically to gain this treasure.
To use the effect of this item, all the user must do is slip the ring onto his finger, after which the user will abruptly split into two almost-identical copies of one another, with the copy being a mirrored version of the original. Although both possess the memories and thoughts of the original individual, and have duplicate versions of all the original's gear and clothing, once separated they are effectively twins with identical capabilities, and do not share the same mind. While separated in this way, the two can travel any distance from each other, use most of the original being's treasures, and over unusually long periods of time could even grow to become different people. Despite this, the two clones are always connected in several ways.
There are several limitations by which each clone must abide:
- Any being using Deuce cannot use any Major treasures for the duration of its effect.
- Whenever one copy uses a treasure with a time limitation (such as Fire), both copies must abide by that time limitation. E.g., if the first copy casts Fire, the second copy must wait an appropriate amount of time before casting it himself.
- Any items, treasures, or rupees lost by one copy are lost by both.
- If either copy removes his ring, he and the ring abruptly disappear from existence, effectively dying.
- If one copy dies, its half of the ring disappears as well, and the surviving copy immediately falls into a comatose state. The survivor and his ring will only return to full life when subjected to a powerful healing effect, such as the Life spell or Fairy Tears.
At any time, the two beings can touch their rings together to fuse back together into one being. Any damage suffered, memories made, items obtained, or knowledge gained by either of the copies is passed onto the merged being.
Trivia
