Sprout Tentacles is a utility spell. It takes only a few seconds of intense concentration to cast, often involving a specific uttered phrase unique to each caster. When cast successfully, the user grows a swarm of up to eight octopus-like tentacles from one spot on her body. She can instead cause these tentacles to sprout on another individual by gently touching them for several seconds of concentration.

Any tentacle is generally no longer than the recipient's arm. Despite their flexibility and strength, these tentacles' lack of bones generally makes them physically less weaker than the caster's own arms, and much less dexterous than hands. The user retains complete control over these tentacles as if they were a natural part of her body. Notably, these tentacles make the user an excellent swimmer in their own right, enabling a typical Hylian to become as fast and adept Zora athlete. They offer no protection from water nor any ability to breathe water, however.

One individual cannot sprout more than one batch of tentacles, and any given batch can only sprout up from one spot on the user's body. If the caster sprouts tentacles on herself, they will last until she willfully dismisses them. If cast on someone else, the recipient will gain tentacles for up to 10 minutes, after which point they recede and vanish. In either case, the tentacles will also disappear if any one of them is severed, or if the recipient falls unconscious. Once the tentacles vanish for any reason, the recipient cannot sprout more for several minutes.

Trivia

  • Other treasures which enhance the ability to swim include Zora Flippers and Mermaid Suit.
  • Other treasures which grant the user control over tentacle-like limbs include Tendrils of Darkness, and gear crafted from Tanglewood.
  • The Sprout Tentacles treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy.
