Gratitude Crystals (material)
Type Defensive Magical Item
Fields Light, Protect
Cost 25 rupees

Gratitude Crystals appear as shimmering fist-sized gems of a pale orange color, though they typically become more yellow or gold when forged into armor. Supposedly, these crystals are created after a person feels a profound emotion of gratitude, hence the name. This treasure represents an ample supply of crystals to be worked into forging a suit of metal or wooden armor, or tailor a piece of clothing. Indeed, Gratitude Crystals are primarily used as a material for a skilled Tailor, Blacksmith, or Woodworker. A Tailor has a particularly easy time with these crystals, and as such, may treat this treasure as if it has a cost of 20 rupees.

An appropriately skilled Crafter can use a single supply of Gratitude Crystals to craft a functional Golden Tunic, or other clothing which has similar properties of protecting its wearer from Light damage. Whatever clothing is produced must cover the majority of the user's body to offer protection in the same way as a Golden Tunic. A particularly skilled Crafter can combine Gratitude Crystals with other Materials to combine their effects into one product.

Whoever wears a piece made from Gratitude Crystals will take less than half the damage from Light-based attacks, and lose any extremely photosensive properties, causing them to be no more sensitive to light than a typical Hylian. While this can help to negate the weaknesses of Undead and Vampiric creatures, it will never protect a being with a Dark Affinity.

Trivia

  • Like Gratitude Crystals protect from light, similar materials can provide protection from other danger sources: Dodongo Hide protects from heat, White Hide protects from cold, Silver Scales protect from water, Lightning Weave Cloth protects from electricity, and Evil Crystals protect from Shadow damage.
  • The Gratitude Crystals (material) treasure does not appear verbatim within the official Zelda series. However, it can be interpreted to exist from context, initially so in Skyward Sword.
