The Portal Bracers appear as a pair of strange gloves. Each glove always has an opposing color, such as white and black, or violet and yellow. The wearer of these gloves can, at will, form a dimly-glowing orb in the palm of either glove. The color of the orb always matches the color of the glove. This orb can then be thrown, dropped, or pushed, like any kind of ball. It notably has a light texture, not unlike a ball of crumpled paper, so it cannot be thrown very hard nor very quickly.
If the orb strikes a moving entity, or an oddly-shaped surface, it evaporates instantly without effect. If the orb strikes a flat surface, however, it evaporates to create a circular portal on that surface. It cannot create a portal underneath an object (e.g., underneath where someone is already standing). The width of this portal is usually a little over half the wearer's height, and has a border matching whatever color the orb was. Having only one portal seems to have no effect. Creating to portals--one of each color--allows them to connect. Simply put, any matter which goes through one will almost instantly come out the other. Unlike more traditional portals, two portals created by Portal Bracers will not function more than 330 feet (or 100 meters) apart.
If the wearer creates a new portal, it will replace the previous portal he made of the same color. As such, the wearer is never able to create more than two portals at once. If the wearer removed the Portal Bracers, all of his functional portals will vanish instantly. When portals vanish, any items stuck between them are harmlessly pushed out to one side or the other.
Trivia
- Portal and Mini-Portal can be used to create more permanent portals of varying sizes, which function over greater distances.
- The Portal Bracers treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. These bracers are, however, heavily based on the "Portal Gun" which appears frequently in the Portal series of video games.
