A supply of Spine Beads is a material a Weaponsmith or Outfitter can imbue into any item they can craft.  On their own, Spine Beads appear as silvery beads with a consistency of iron, but don't seem to have any purpose.

In crafting an item, the crafter can imbue any number of Spine Beads anywhere on the object's surface, so long as each is a finger's width apart.  When the item is worn or wielded, its user can shout a specific word or phrase--such as "Extend!"--to cause a large spike to abruptly stab out of the item wherever a Spine Bead was placed.  One of these 'spines' as a consistency similar to steel, and has a point as sharp as a dagger.  A single spike can be up to 4 inches (or 10cm) in length, but will appear as any length shorter as designated by the crafter.
