Tanglewood is a material which an Outfitter can imbue into a raiment that covers the torso. It appears as a piece of darkly colored wood covered with vine pods, though the coloring itself depends on the region from which it was harvested.

Equipment made from Tanglewood is enveloped in numerous vines which are about a meter each in length. These vines function as a form of prehensile limbs, like the tentacles of octopus. The vines are not directly controlled, instead responding based on the user's general emotions and personality. For example, if the wearer holds violent or hateful feelings toward an individual, the vines would typically lash out and attempt to constrict that individual if it is in reach. If the wearer is particularly comfortable or attuned to the vined equipment, it is possible to command them to do certain simple actions, such as grab on to a particular object. Although the vines have great grip strength and carrying capacity--compared to an adult Hylian's power--they lack dexterity and are very slow-moving compared to living limbs. They are also highly flammable, and can be ripped apart by hand almost as easily as common vines.

For example, these vines can perform a constricting or choking attack, but are slow enough that a wary foe will be able to get away from them. The vines move too slowly for a lashing whip attack to cause damage. Additionally, the vines aren't particularly intelligent, and intricate tasks are generally beyond their capabilities.

Though vines are only about as durable as normal vines, but their regenerative abilities are extraordinary, as sliced or torn vines seem to grow back within minutes. The wood making up the equipment itself is durable, but not anything remarkable.

Trivia

The Tanglewood treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Eevachu and Clooby.
