In Hyrule, an extraordinary boomerang has the peculiar tendency to fly back to its thrower even if it is thrown directly into a wall. As such, they are often used as makeshift weapons and can be used to stun or bewilder some monsters. This kind of boomerang also has the strange property to be able to pick up and carry small items, such as rupees, laid in its path, and carry these items back to the thrower. Common boomerangs which do not have these properties are not considered to be treasures, and gain be gained without expending rupees.

This treasure is a racial perk for Moblins. As such, a Moblin can choose to gain it as a perk upon character creation. It is most commonly used by a variety known as Goriya, but is occasionally used by other varieties as well. Other races acquire this treasure normally.

The user can gain the Magic, Thrice, or Gale augment simultaneously with the original treasure for an additional cost, or as a separate treasure at a later time. A single boomerang is able to have any number of augments.

A boomerang with the Magic augment can have its course telepathically altered by the thrower. As long as the thrower concentrates and remains motionless, he can have the boomerang curve in almost any direction he desires. He cannot, however, cause the boomerang to stop and hover in one spot, nor can he keep it airborne for more than roughly 10-20 seconds.

A boomerang with the Gale augment summons a small tornado around itself, roughly two feet tall, which twists in the same direction the boomerang spins. This small "gale" can be used to blow wind across targeted objects, or pick up several objects in its spinning vortex. This augment can be emulated by using a Wind Enchantment on the boomerang.

If an individual is wielding a boomerang with the Thrice augment, he is able to magically triple it. After throwing the boomerang, he can focus momentarily to create a second in his hand and throw it, and then even focus once more to create a third. With a bit of practice, he use this effect to throw three boomerangs easily before the first one even returns to him. The duplicated boomerangs will disappear either if they lose all momentum and fall to the ground, or a split-second before they touch the thrower's body (which thereby prevents him from being struck by the duplicates if his hands are full).

Trivia

  • A Weaponsmith can treat a Boomerang as a material for the purpose of combining its effects with other materials or treasures into one weapon. For determining how many materials the Weaponsmith can craft into one item, treat this item as though it had a set cost of 15 rupees. The Magic Boomerang augment can be added for another 15 rupees.
  • The Thrice augment has a similar, but fundamentally different effect as the Thrice spell.
  • The Boomerang treasure canonically appears in the Zelda series, initially in The Legend of Zelda. More information about the canonical version of this treasure can likely be found on Zelda Wiki.
