Dark Affinity is an uncanny offensive trait, which offers power for a price.

To gain a dark affinity, the user sacrifices a portion of their humanity. The character cannot gain spells, techniques, songs, or traits with either the Light or Heal field. Similarly, the character cannot have a Specialty. If any such abilities have already been learned, they are permanently lost. Furthermore, any Heal effect which would benefit the user is half as effective. Finally, the user loses either a physical or mental aspect of their being. Physically, the character develops a grotesque, scary, and difficult to hide deformity like a disfigured face or losing the flesh from their appendages. Mentally, the character gains some nature or characteristic that makes it difficult for them to appear good in the eyes of normal society, such as the ability to control their anger or the ability to understand other people's point of view. Often, the color of the user's body darkens subtly, particularly so for non-humans like Darknuts or Lizalfos.

In exchange for these losses, the user gains an noticeable increase in strength and stamina. The user becomes more proficient in all Shadow and Disable field treasures, to the extent that any such treasure is reduced by a cost level (Highest to Higher; Normal to Low; etc.). Furthermore, when casting a Shadow spell, the user is treated as having one more level in Magic Power than he otherwise would (not to exceed two levels). Finally, the user is capable of causing minor painful injuries such as bruises, shallow cuts, or first-degree degree burns just by touching bare flesh (unless the flesh touched is of an undead creature).

The Dark Affinity treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Spirit Adept.
