Daruk's Protection is a simple but powerful spell that can protect the caster from almost any attack. Its origins are mysterious, but it is known to be an innate technique primarily used by a certain family of warrior Gorons, and passed down through its generations.

Once learned, this spell can be cast simply by concentrating upon it. For as long as the caster concentrates, he is surrounded in a semitransparent red sphere with a diameter slightly more than he is tall. Anything that would strike through the sphere with enough force to cause damage--from a punch to the blast of a Fire Rod--is deflected with a sudden and vigorous force, leaving the caster unharmed. The deflection force is always at least great enough to deflect the incoming attack. For a direct melee attack, the deflecting force is often enough to momentarily stun or even disarm the attacker, but rarely so violent that it causes significant injury.

This spell is considered "used" when it successfully deflects one attack. Due to the extreme rate at which this spell consumes magic, it can normally be used only once per quest or dungeon. With one level of Magic Power, however, it can be cast twice. With two levels of Magic Power, it can be cast thrice. Every time the user consumes a Green Potion, this spell can be cast one more time. Regardless of how many times this spell can be cast, at least 1 minute must pass before it can be repeated.

Trivia

  • This spell is one of several that can mitigate damage at the last moment. Others include Barrier, Nayru's Love, and Split.
  • The Daruk's Protection treasure canonically appears in the Zelda series, initially in Breath of the Wild. More information about the canonical version of this treasure can likely be found on Zelda Wiki.
