Gripskin is a material that can be used by an Outfitter in crafting any item that can be worn, and can be used by a Weaponsmith in crafting any item that is wielded in the hands. Gripskin itself is the leather of a particular lizard. When finished, Gripskin feels slightly more rough than common cattle leather, and degrades in quality at a slower pace than most leathers.

When a Weaponsmith applies Gripskin to the handle of a weapon or shield, the weapon will not fall out of its wielder's grip, unless intentionally dropped by the wielder or forcibly removed from the wielder's hand by an extreme force.

When an Outfitter applies Gripskin to gloves or boots, they allow for greater friction, especially with organic surfaces, allowing one so bedecked to climb a single, smooth vine as easily as if they were climbing a ladder. Although walking with Gripskin boots on ice is still a bit tricky, the wearer is much less likely to lose his balance, and has better traction over all.

When an Outfitter applies Gripskin to the inside of armor or clothing, the outfit will cling tightly, but comfortably to the wearer's skin. This still allows a great range of movement. The wearer can remove the outfit normally, but cannot be forcefully removed from the user's skin--unless it is cut as with a blade, or pulled so hard the user's skin would rip from the force.

Trivia

The Gripskin (material) treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Eternis.
