A Hearing Shell appears to be little more than a palm-sized snail shell, seemingly hollow. However, this mysterious item can be used to record and play sound. After person gently blows into the opening the shell, the shell will listen to any sounds for a little less than a minute. Once that minute has passed, gently knocking on the side of the shell--as like knocking on a door--causes it to play back an almost identical version of whatever sounds it heard during that duration, at comparable volume. The shell can be called on to replay this sound at any time, as many times as desired. If someone again blows into the shell, however, the sound will be "cleared out" and permanently erased--and a new message will be immediately recorded over it. In this way, the shell can only store one piece of sound at a time.

Any special song, or sound produced through illusions, cannot be recorded by the shell. Playing back such a recording will sound as though the unusual audio was not present at all.

Trivia

  • This treasure's ability to record sound is similar to a Pictograph Box's ability to record an image.
