A Poe Shield can appears as any mundane personal shield, from a tiny buckler to a massive tower shield, though it usually bears a stark black rim. At a glance, it would seem to be a mundane but functional shield.

The true purpose behind the Poe Shield is activated when its wielder looks upon another individual in the vicinity and shouts a singular word--usually "Protect!" or "Guard," though it varies from one shield to another. When executed correctly, the individual will be covered by a floating shield of force identical to the one wielded by the user, which is about as transparent as tinted glass, but as durable as the Poe Shield itself. Whenever the user adjusts the direction of the Poe Shield around himself, the translucent copy is adjusted accordingly around the target. If the user directs his shield north, for instance, the translucent shield will also face north in approximately the same position. The motion of the translucent shield makes it difficult to perform attacks such as shield bashes, however.

The recipient's movement, attacks, and items are unaffected by the translucent shield, enabling her to attack through it as easily as she could attack through air.

The translucent shield will remain on the recipient until the user removes the Poe Shield from his own arm, at which point its transparent duplicate will vanish as abruptly as it arrived. When the Poe Shield is returned to his arm, he can give its protection to a new target.

Trivia

  • A Weaponsmith can treat a Poe Shield as a material for the purpose of combining its effects with other materials or treasures into one shield. For determining how many materials the Weaponsmith can craft into one item, treat this item as though it had a set cost of 40 rupees.
  • The Poe Shield treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy.
