Scent Seed
Type Offensive Organic Item
Fields Cut, Disable, Seed
Cost 3 rupees

A Scent Seed appears as a spherical orange fruit, with small protruding spikes or burs. When a Scent Seed is cracked open, it releases a strange and pleasant scent that strongly attracts many feral animals and monsters. The burs protruding from the seed make for particularly effective slingshot ammunition. Do to these burs, Scent Seeds have a tendency to get caught on clothing or fur.

This single seed is pure and potent, and as such can be useful as a material to be used by a Botanist. By contrast, a Scent Seed Supply is a collection of less pure seeds which retain the same practical use, but cannot be grown and cultivated by a Botanist. Using just four of these potent seeds, a skilled Botanist can cultivate a Scent Seed Supply.

When used by a Botanist, these seeds are useful for creating an effect related to the Disable field, or an effect involving scents.

Seed Effects

By using three Scent Seeds, along with at least three other seeds, a Botanist is able to create a Seed Supply with one of the following effects. These effects will combine with the effects of other seed types used as materials.

Effect Name Description of Effect
Scent The normal effect of a Scent Seed occurs.
Acid When cracked open, as by a powerful impact, the seed pours out a small amount of highly corrosive acid that can eat away a small amount of flesh or metal. Repeated applications of these seeds can even eat right through steel. If the acid lingers outside of the seed for more than a few minutes, it becomes diluted and no longer corrosive.
Stink When cracked open, as by a powerful impact, the seed pours out an orange fluid that smells so disgusting and pungent that it causes anyone in its vicinity to become nauseous, sometimes even to the point of vomiting. Ingesting it, of course, is a guaranteed means of cleaning out your stomach. Animals and feral monsters normally seek to avoid the stench.
Barbed These seeds have much more prominent, sticky spikes compared to normal Scent Seeds. They have an extraordinary means of sticking to any cloth, fur, or even flesh they come across, and each tiny seed seems to weigh down the afflicted individual with several pounds/kilograms of force.
Olfactory So long as the user tightly grips this seed in her palm, her sense of smell is drastically enhanced, even more powerful than a bloodhound's sense of smell. Unlike the Mask of Scents, though, the user doesn't sense phenomenon that isn't normally associated with smell.
Clog Once this seed is eaten, or impacted against a creature's body, the creature's sense of smell completely vanishes for several minutes.

Elixir Effects

Scent Seeds can also be combined with specific quantities of other seeds to create a PerQuest Elixir with one of the following effects. As usual, the Botanist is able to produce multiple elixirs if her Botanist level is high enough.

Elixir Name Seeds Resulting Effect
Fog Paint 1 Scent + 1 Smoke This paint is enough to cover one wall, or douse one creature. The affected object will appear pitch-black, and billow a black smoke indefinitely, until it is washed off with water or a similar fluid. As a strange side effect, if this paint is drunk like a potion, the drinker will die, but will appear for all intents and purposes to have died from asphyxiation, rather than poisoning.
Frigid Acid 1 Scent + 1 Chill This bottle contains a small amount of extremely potent that liquid capable of freezing solid almost any object, even steel. After being directly and carefully exposed to frigid acid for at least five seconds, any object becomes so brittle that it can be broken with a firm punch. A mere sprinkling of frigid acid is extremely painful, but is less potent.
Poison of Silence 1 Scent + 1 Breath This bottle contains a liquid that can be applied to a weapon, or thrown into the air. Whoever contacts this fluid directly becomes unable to speak or cast spells. This effect persists until the afflicted area of the body is cleaned with fresh water, or the target is subjected to an effect which alleviates curses or jinxes.
Null Oil 1 Scent + 1 Razor Coating or splashing a magical item with this oil will cause its magical properties to abruptly cease functioning. Similarly, any enchanted item will return to normal. The affected item cannot be enchanted. This effect lingers until the item is submerged in clean, fresh water, or removed by another treasure's special effect.
Pungent Defense 2 Scent + 2 Hyoi Whoever drinks this potion will abruptly reek with a stench so potent that it is virtually impossible for any smelling creature to get within arm's reach of him (roughly 6 feet, or 2 meters) without holding their nose or otherwise blocking off the stench. This effect lasts for several minutes at a time, but usually no more than 10.
Stunning Poison 4 Scent + 4 Deku This poison can be applied to the tip of one weapon. When a creature is cut with a blade coated in this poison, that creature's entire body abruptly becomes paralyzed, completely unable to move anything but their eyes. A blocked strike, as against an armor or shield, is likely to shake the poison loose and waste it. If the poison is imbibed or inhaled, it will have an identical effect. This paralysis lasts for at least an hour, unless cured by another treasure.
