Thwomp Gloves usually appear as a rocky gray gauntlet to be worn on the hands, requiring both of them to function.

The gloves can be activated with the user places both open palms facing in front of her, standing stationary, and concentrates intensely for roughly 10 seconds. This causes a large cubical stone creature known as a Thwomp to appear before her. The Thwomp is almost perfectly cubical, made of solid stone yet animated by magic, and usually of a height comparable to the user. It usually weights several hundred pounds, but its weight is relative to its size.

Once it is created, the Thwomp will slowly rise into the air, floating on a wave of invisible force, until it either hits a ceiling, or reaches a height of about 20 feet (or 600 cm), whichever comes first. There it will remain stationary until something disturbs it, with a calm expression upon its face.

Whenever an animated being crosses directly beneath the Thwomp, its face will abruptly become furious, it will release an audible grunt, and its cubical body will drop straight down. The Thwomp has no discretion--it will even drop upon the one who created it. The force of several hundred pounds of stone crushing downward will usually be lethal if it strikes cleanly. There is usually a second or two the potential victim has to react to the grunt noise, and that's assuming it didn't notice the giant hunk of stone floating in the air initially.

Once triggered, the Thwomp will continue to drop until it strikes a solid floor. It will always pause abruptly just above this floor, not damaging it, but pulverizing practically anything between itself and the floor. Once it ceases falling, it will once again calmly and gradually float into the air, waiting for another opportunity to drop.

It is virtually impossible to move a Thwomp from its floating position by force, and any force strong enough to sufficiently damage its stone body will cause it to vanish into thin air. The user can use her gloves at any time to summon a new Thwomp, but this will cause the previous one to vanish.

Trivia

  • The Thwomp Gloves treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy.
