This content is a tentative addition to Hyrule Castle, and is still undergoing revision. It is not yet available to player-characters.

The Wind Tribe is a race of Hylian-like people who exist in the Light World, almost exclusively on a floating island in the sky known as Skyloft. Unlike most sentient races present in this world, the Wind Tribe is not a playable race. That is, a player currently cannot make a character of this race. However, members of the Wind Tribe can still be used as plot devices and as non-player-characters.

Physiology

Members of the Wind Tribe appear almost indecipherable from normal land-dwelling Hylians, and as a result are seen by many as members of the Hylian race.

Unlike Hylians, however, members of the Wind Tribe universally feature hair color of a bright red—almost pink—whereas seemingly no Hylians naturally feature this hue. In addition, although they age at a similar rate, it is common for members of the Wind Tribe to live to ages as old as 120.

History & Culture

The Wind Tribe has its origins in the Old Kingdom, alongside Hylians, Gerudo, Twili, and Sheikah, all stemming from the same ancestral race of Ancient Hylians. Around the time of the Interloper War of that kingdom, a sect of powerful sorcerers thought to remove themselves from the Old Kingdom and their violent nature. As the tale goes, they used their magic to cleave a huge hunk of land from the world, and rose it into the sky—becoming an island floating among the clouds.

This island became known as Skyloft, and the people inhabited became known as the Wind Tribe. Infamously, they cut off all contact with the surface world for centuries. The tribe lived peacefully among themselves, and in time their existence became mythical to the surface-dwellers. Their population remained mostly the same—small, by surface standards. It was only about a century ago that an errant Rito made contact with the island and the race. In the time since, contact and trade begun, and persists to this day in fairly limited amounts.

The largest single interaction of the Wind Tribe and the surface world occurred during the apex of the Imprisoning War. The Wind Tribe famously assisted Hyrulean forces invading the Gerudo Kingdom by sending down cyclones, hailstorms, and other powerful weather to utterly decimate Gerudo forces. They thereby displayed the sheer magical power their small population still retained, immensely greater than seemingly any Surface Dwellers possess.

After the war, however, the Wind Tribe still has mostly kept to themselves—a society of hermits, as it were. Still, there is now even a Post Office on the small island, though it is rarely used. Modern visits by Rito and Loftwing-riders are usually tied to the Post Office, as the tribe routinely turns away anyone else.

Throughout their history, members of the Wind Tribe have placed a large focus on the importance of magic, and the diligent study of spells. As a result, they are almost universally skilled spell-casters, with an emphasis on magic related to wind and weather. Despite their magical power, none of them have ever become Wizzrobes, and—outside of one instance—have never used their magic for destructive purposes.
