Ruto is a major settlement in Southern Hyrule, to the point is included on any decent map. It is one of the few southern cities not inhabited by monstrous races, and is primarily home to Hylians, and some Gerudo. Monsters such as Moblins and Stalfos are not welcome here, and will usually be attacked on sight.

Since being reclaimed from Ganon's forces, much of the city has been decimated, leaving many returning inhabits with only shreds of their former homes, forced to build new structures in their place.

History

Ruto was built on one of the few oasises of the Tantari Desert. Established as an offshoot from Kasuto, the town of Ruto nestled itself amidst the silky dunes of the desert, home to those who could handle the heat. When Ganon’s armies broke into Southern Hyrule, they aimed largely north before finally fording the river into the barren lands of the Tantari Desert. Upon finding Ruto, the horde of monsters unleashed itself on the town, decimating the population but losing many still into the desert these people called home. Many of the survivors of Ruto moved on to warn their sister village, Rauru, though their efforts wouldn't save the city either. Shortly after Ganon's invasion, the refugees of the attacks on both Ruto and Rauru found shelter in the Eastern Caves.

In more recent days, a plan amongst the bravest was executed, stealing back the town of Ruto from Ganon’s grasp. With Ganon’s forces occupied elsewhere, the Gerudo and Hylians alike have managed to rebuild this town as beacon of hope for those who would still fight against evil.
