---|---|
Type | Utility Magical Item |
Fields | Communicate, Sense, Transform |
Cost | 15 rupees |
A Soul Stone appears as a translucent gemstone, usually of a pale blue or violet color. A sufficiently skilled Weaponsmith or Outfitter can imbue this material into any item she can craft.
One Soul Stone normally costs 15 rupees. However, its price is reduced by 1 rupee for every crafting level the user possesses, to a minimum cost of 5 rupees. This reduction applies to both when the stone is first gained, and when determining how many materials can be worked into a single item.
The exact effect of the stone becomes increasingly potent with the number of stones imbued into the item. Up to four stones can be effectively imbued into a single crafted item.
One Stone
With one stone, the crafted item gains its own personality, and indeed its own "soul." To express its personality, the item becomes capable of speaking one language chosen by the crafter, which can be audibly expressed and heard like any normal speaking voice. The personality usually thematically fits the weapon, but aside from that, the crafter has little if any control over the soul which manifests within it.
Via magical means, the item can hear and see in all directions around itself, and is able to think and express emotion as well as any sentient being. The soul has no sense of smell, nor any sense of feel. It cannot use any spells or techniques.
Two Stones
With two stones, the soul inside the item becomes slightly more capable. It benefits from the sense ability, and can telepathically communicate to and from its owner instantly over any distance.
Optionally, the item may optionally gain a purely aesthetic part of its form which it can alter at will, such as gems which function as eyes, or a paint pattern it can use to represent different ideas.
The item can also at-will transform into a small and mundane but unremarkable land-bound animal--such as a housecat, small dog, squirrel, or nonvenomous snake--but this transformation cannot last for more than 1 minute, and requires the soul to revert to its normal form to rest for at least an hour before transforming again. While transformed, the soul gains all the senses and capabilities of its form, but has visible cues on its body that is definitely not a normal animal.
Three Stones
With three stones, the soul's ability to manifest in a physical shape is enhanced immensely. It can now transform into any small and mundane flying, aquatic, or amphibious animals--to include Keese, fish, toads, and more.
More importantly, it gains one advanced form it can enter at will. This advanced form can resemble any form of mount, or any playable race. Once the advanced form is decided, the soul can only manifest into that form and any of its lesser forms. It can never choose a new advanced form. When taking any form, the soul can remain transformed for up to 5 minutes, and only needs to rest an equal amount of time as it spent transformed.
When telepathically communicating with its owner, the item can effortlessly manifest an ethereal version of any form it can take, which only the user can see. While ethereal, the soul cannot affect any other physical objects.
In its advanced form, the soul can become an Unusual Companion in its own right, and thereby earn its own treasures. If this Unusual Companion contains any Memory Metal or Crimson Granite, it may learn the appropriate technique(s) or spell(s) for free.
Four Stones
With four stones, the user can remain in its advanced form indefinitely. It can transform into any lesser forms at will, but can still only remain in a lesser form for at most 5 minutes, and afterward must rest either in its advanced or item forms as usual.
Trivia
- The Sentience Sap material also enables an item to gain sentience, but lacks the more advanced functions of Soul Stone. Its pricing is often more favorable for items which only benefit from this purpose.
- Master Ore is the only other material with a rupee cost that decreases as one's crafting level increases.
- Soul Stones do not canonically appear in the Zelda series. However, their abilities are heavily based on the sword-spirit entities which do appear in the series, beginning with Skyward Sword.
