Despite their appearance, Hinox are a two-gendered race.  Males are much more common than females, and as a result, females tend to be highly prized and revered among other Hinox.  There are few visual or differences between the two sexes, save for a more prominent chest on post-pregnancy females.  A female Hinox can become pregnant in a manner similar to a female Hylian, and will typically gives birth to anywhere between one and four offspring, with comparatively high instances of identical twins and quadruplets.

A Hinox ages and matures at a relatively fast rate, roughly double the rate of Hylians, but comparable to Moblins.  Unlike most races, a Hinox child can be functionally independent in as little as 2 or 3 years, at which point it has the size and strength of a typical 10-or-12-year old Hylian male.  A Hinox won't reach its full size, maturity, and fertility until about 10 years of life.  A growing Hinox is extremely voracious, often consuming several entire animals by itself every day to bolster its rapid growth of size, strength, and intelligence.

A typical adult Hinox stands somewhere between 7 and 10 feet tall (or about 210 cm to 300cm), and can weigh anywhere from 300 lbs to 900 lbs (135 kg to 400 kg), making it among the largest races.  Only Lynels are as tall on average, and only they are heavier and more massive.  Despite being mostly hairless flesh like Hylians, Hinox universally are extremely muscular by Hylian standards, which coupled with their size makes them easily the most physically powerful race.  Supposedly, they have even more physical strength than Darknuts, if not by much.

Uniquely, any given Hinox only has one prominent eye upon its face.  Unlike typical eyes, a Hinox eye has an advanced pupil aperture enabling it to focus and zoom easily, giving it comparable depth perception to two-eyed creatures without the need for a second eye.  Its noseless face features a large jaw with powerful fanged tusks, ideal for ripping apart large chunks of meat, the staple of any Hinox diet.  Indeed, Hinox are largely carnivorous, and they have relative difficulty digesting vegetables or other plant-based food.

Any Hinox only grows a small tuft of hair upon its head, often of a gray or black color, which in their culture is usually tied back into a singular ponytail.  Females are more likely to tie their hair tufts into two or three separate ponytails, which is used to represent their more important role in Hinox society.

The Hinox race almost universally wear simple animal pelts, and rarely even bother for protective footwear.  Although they understand the benefits of metal armor, it is typically seen by them as an obnoxious obstruction to movement, which outweighs its value.  This mindset likely comes from the fact they are used to absolutely dominating animals and beasts in battle, and are less accustomed to the more crafty opponents found outside their Dark World homeland.  The few Hinox which have left their realm for the Light World are the most likely to wear armor for their protection in combat, even if they do find it extremely uncomfortable and obstructing.

Since females are so scarce among Hinox, they are extremely prone to competition between males.  In days past, this was done solely to prove who would be the strongest protector and the most successful hunter for a pregnant mother or newborn children.  As such, competitions of bare-body strength from arm-wrestling to stone-throwing are extremely commonplace even today, though in modern times more intellectual games are played occasionally as well.  At its best, this competitive tendency of Hinox has led to individuals of the race being as strong and capable as they can be.  At its worse, their competitive nature has made it virtually impossible for Hinox to function in an organized way beyond small tribes.

Hinox history is brief, beginning roughly 70 years ago.  It was then that powerful magic flung the man then known as Ganondorf from Hyrule, the Light World, entered a parallel dimension which was up until then known as the Sacred Realm.  This realm at that time housed little other than the omnipotent Triforce, which Ganondorf sought to steal from the realm, then return to Hyrule and use the power of the Triforce to conquer it.  What he and perhaps no one realized at that time was the sheer creative power of the Triforce itself.  From the moment he grasped it, a seemingly endless magic poured throughout the Sacred Realm, turning its landscape into a twisted world that reflected the evil nature of Ganondorf's own mind and imagination.  In the blink of an eye, an entire realm was created, spawning countless landscapes and creatures from purely magical origins--paralleling all of the Light World in a twisted and horrid land which quickly became known as the Dark World.  Hinox were but one of the races created in this moment, and due to Ganondorf's imagination, they spoke Hyrulean natively.  Ganondorf was not concerned with the world he had created, seeking only power--which the Triforce gave him in spades.  Infamously, he transformed into a huge beast known as Ganon, who was almost single-handedly able to take on the entirety of the army opposing him in the Light World.  Only with the greatest power of the Royal Sages was he flung back into the Dark World he created, and the two worlds severed.  Two-thirds of the Triforce's power was ripped from Ganondorf's hands, preventing him from overpowering the seal and returning to the Light World he yearned to conquer.

When the Dark World was birthed, it was created as if time had persisted for centuries beforehand.  Hinox, like most races within it, were completely unaware they had even suddenly been "created," and that the days and years before were all magical fabrications.  In this fictional shared past that existed prior to Ganon, Hinox were far and wide considered the most physically powerful, intelligent, and dominant race in their homeland that is the Dark World.  Although other intelligent races existed, they are far less populous, and are easily out-muscled for meat and most other basic resources.  Usually only Dark World Wizzrobes and other crafty, magically-oriented races have fought Hinox in tribal battles and lived to tell about it.  That was, until Ganon came.  Even though he only wielded a portion of the Triforce, he was able to create an army from magic and recruits--and suddenly this army was wiping the floor with Hinox tribes, not only out-competing them for resources, but killing any who opposed them.  Favoring only the strongest side, many Hinox joined Ganon's army alongside the Darknuts he created and other monsters he recruited.  The local Hinox tribes which existed beforehand dwindled rapidly, and none of them knew the only purpose of this army was to traverse back into some Light World they had never heard of, to crush a foe they had never met.  Hinox society and history was all but consumed in this vengeful rage.  The reign of the Evil King, Ganon, would persist in the Dark World for 50 years--longer than the lifespan of any Hinox.

Then, finally, as abruptly as Ganon appeared, he vanished--unknown, by some, into the Light World he sought to destroy, in what would become known there as Ganon's War.  This invasion was what brought the vast majority of Hinox into Hyrule.  Unfortunately many of them were unprotected by Moon Pearls and knew not of the Light World's dangers, so the invasion tragically brought many of these Dark Worlders forth as mere powerless slimes--decimating a huge portion of their population.  Despite this travesty, back in the Dark World, things had more or less returned to normal.  The surviving Hinox who refused to enlist in Ganon's army were completely free of his reign and most of his his supporters, able to re-establish not mere scattered tribes, but a gathering of one people--into a unified culture that would hopefully be able to fight as one against any scourge, Ganon or otherwise, that would return to their world.

Unfortunately for the Hinox, in the remnants of Ganon's kingdom, a new kingdom known as Lorule--populated by small, but magical and crafty Hyruleans--was forming in his castle and the surrounding territory.  It has been two decades since this ridding of Ganon and the founding of the mysterious Kingdom of Lorule.  Since then, Hinox as a whole have been struggling to understand their world, the light world, and each other, as they try to organize themselves in spite of their more primal instincts for in-fighting and competition.  The wake of Ganon's magic has left them much more knowledge of spells and magical items, as well as information regarding the Light World.  A small portion of venturous Hinox--hundreds at most--have since used this knowledge to venture safely into the Light World in their own right.

Hinox is a playable race on Hyrule Castle. As one of the nine uncommon races, a player must either be a Veteran, or acquire a Race License specifically for this race to create a Hinox character. As one of the "monster" races, beings of this race are traditionally abhorred by Hylians, may be attacked on sight, and are generally not allowed anywhere near the settlements in Northern Hyrule, nor in Ruto.

Canonically, Hinox initially appear in A Link to the Past, and have since returned in several games.

Character Creation Brief

Hinox are a race of giant, muscular, one-eyed people hailing from the Dark World, a realm parallel to but separate from the Light World in which Hyrule exists. They often erroneously assumed to be part of Ganon's army, as few surviving Hinox even associate themselves with the King of Evil. They are most distinguishable by their sheer size and strength, as any one of them is capable of effortlessly overpowering the men of Hyrule. Despite their sheer physical power, they rarely fight with anything but bombs and their bare fists. It's rare for one to wear boots, let alone armor. Their nature is inherently competitive and aggressive, but they are not by nature cruel nor evil. Among Hinox, females are considered to be more valuable due to their scarcity, but otherwise genders are practically the same.

Any Hinox player-character is presumed to either have hailed directly from the Dark World, but have ended up in the Light World of Hyrule for one reason or another. It was only within the past twenty years or so that travel between the Light World and Dark World was known to be possible at all, and it's still extremely rare.

A Hinox begins with a PWC of 2/1/2, having a 2 in both Power and Courage. This starting PWC can be defied by using the Exception racial perk during character creation.

A Hinox begins with two innate racial perks: Dark Worlder and Moon Pearl. The prior represents his origins in the Dark World and curses him with a weakness to Light, while the latter helps him retain his form while existing outside the Dark World. In addition to these, a Hinox character can have up to three additional racial perks of choice. In addition to the general perks available to every race, a Hinox can also choose from:

 • Bomb Bag: a powerful supply of explosive weaponry
 • Eruption: a difficult to use, but powerful technique that can create a colossal explosion
 • Eyebeam: a simple ability that lets the Hinox shoot light beams from his eyes to attack
 • Grenadier: a useful trait which makes it easier for the Hinox to acquire treasures of the Bomb field
 • Ice: an offensive spell that lets the Hinox sling an orb of ice, often used by those accustomed to frigid regions
 • Power Lift: a trait which increases the Hinox's ability to lift and carry heavy objects
 • Punch Power: a useful trait which makes it easier for the Hinox to acquire treasures of the Fist field

You were wise enough to take the protection of a sacred Moon Pearl and your trustiest Bomb Bag with you, before diving into a secret and magical portal that connects your world with the one of light. Physiology

While not vital information, the following includes further detail on the race's appearance and biology.

Culture

While not vital information, the following includes further detail on the race's society and values.

Hinox3.png

Although typically seen as stupid, an average Hinox is only slightly less intelligent than an average Hylian. Their society prizes more basic instinctual urges such as hunting, fighting, and displays of power--and as such they have never cared for most forms of technological, magical, or even aesthetic advancement until quite recently. The most impressive invention of their own design seems to be Bombs, which are used almost exclusively as their weapons--aside from the sheer brawn of their fists and bodies, anyway.

History

While not vital information, the following includes further detail on the race's origins and development.

The wake of Ganon's magic has left them much more knowledge of spells and magical items, as well as information regarding the Light World.
