The region known as the Great Ice Field exists in the central region of the landmass known as Subrosian Glacier. As its name suggests, it is huge expanse of tundra that is vastly frozen over year-round, with few natural features other than gently rolling hills and seemingly endless expanses of snow and ice.

A type of Yeti calling themselves Yook have existed primarily in this field since time immemorial. For centuries, Yook have existed in isolated tribes, warring with each other for food or other resources in this harsh frozen wilderness. Most of them live in dome-shaped houses and huts constructed from ice and snow. The majority live near the coast, surviving primarily via fishing. Those who live inland lead comparatively harder lives hunting and foraging for food in lands sparse of food. The few took tribes not known to live in the fields proper have taken shelter in caves to the north.

In recent years, Yooks from this region have dealt with an influx of foreigners from the distant land of Hyrule--mainly Hylians. Differing cultures and language barriers have made relations difficult, but the Hyruleans seem intent on venturing further into the land, largely to acquire rare materials found in caverns just north of the Great Ice Field. The tribes who have interacted with these newcomers have generally been much better off, gaining powerful new technology and magic in exchange for providing aid and expertise in the harsh land.

The Hyruleans have since founded a small town known as Yook Outpost to the south of the field, at the southern tip of the landmass. Northwest of the Great Ice Field rests the entrance to the infamous Subrosian Caverns.
