Yook Outpost is a small town built at the southern tip of the Subrosian Glacier, and is considered by some to be the only hospitable part of the frosty landmass. Despite the town's name, relatively few Yook reside in this mining village. Being the native inhabitants of the glacier, Yooks primarily reside as small tribes in the Great Ice Field to the north of this outpost. The few Yooks which live here primarily serve as guides and experts for the Hyrulean explorers and miners not native to the land.

The small town was founded as only a few huts, initially built by explorers from Northern Hyrule as shelter in the otherwise desolate, remote region. Since then, valuable mining materials were found in the mountains of the nearby region, and Hyrulean-Subrosian relations have increased. As such, more and more people have become part of the outpost. It now sports a hardy and diverse population of Hylians, Gorons, Rito, Subrosians, and Hyrulean Yeti as well as native Yooks, among a few other races. Some of the more violent Yook tribes have animosity towards these foreigners, and similarly some Hyruleans look down upon what they see as primitive natives, but thankfully conflicts so far have been isolated and quickly ended. Commonly, the native Yooks who visit this outpost are able to provide their expertise in exchange for technology or magic to bring back to their tribes to the north.
