White Hide itself appears as the fluffy white hide of most White Wolfos, but usually loses its fluff when treated and tailored. The material itself is extremely resistant to cold and frost, and seems impossible to damage even with the greatest of cold. It likewise doesn't transfer cold through it, but can still transfer heat normally. This treasure represents the total hide one could expect to get from slaying and expertly skinning your typical White Wolfos, and thus makes for a slightly large blanket. The typical adventurer doesn't have a use for it other than using it as a blanket, or haphazardly trying to wrap themselves in it as some form of protection. Indeed, White Hide is primarily used as a material for a skilled Tailor.
A Tailor can use a single supply of White Hide to craft a functional Yeti Tunic, or other clothing which has similar properties of protecting its wearer from cold. Whatever clothing is produced must cover the majority of the user's body to offer protection in the same way as a Yeti Tunic. A particularly skilled Tailor can combine White Hide with other Tailor Materials to combine their effects into one piece of clothing.
Anything made from White Hide will not freeze solid, nor will anything directly covered by White Hide, but a wearer of the material can still catch flame in exposed parts of their body. Due to a seemingly magical nature of any garment produced with the hide, the user will be particularly comfortable even in extremely cold environments.
Any clothing properly made from Dodongo Hide can negate the weakness to cold of Subrosians for so long as it is worn.
Specific Quantification
For most wearers, knowing the White Hide protects from cold is sufficient, but occasionally the exact extent by which it protects may become necessary information. To quantify the hide's protection, it will effectively increase any temperature below room temperature by approximately 90%. Since room temperature is about 70°F, the wearer can treat -200°F as if it was 43°F. (The actual temperature of -200°F is subtracted from room temperature of approximately 70°F, leaving a difference of 270°F. From there, 90% of 270°F is 27°F. Then, 27°F is subtracted from 70°F to determine the approximate temperature felt by the wearer, which in this case is 43°F. Using 90% decrease functions for both Fahrenheit and Celsius measurements of temperature.) The exact degree an individual can endure in a White Hide thus varies on his or her personal endurance, but can be useful for any wearer who isn't completely impervious to cold.
Trivia
- Like White Hide protects from cold, similar Tailor materials can provide protection from other danger sources: Dodongo Hide protects from heat, Silver Scales protect from drowning, Lightning Weave Cloth protects from electricity, Gratitude Crystals protect from Light damage, and Evil Crystals protect from Shadow damage.
- The White Hide (material) treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy.
