A Compaction Seed, or Compact Seed, appears as a small pellet of a violet color, similar in size and shape to a peanut. This single seed is pure and potent, and as such can be useful as a material to be used by a Botanist. By contrast, a Compaction Seed Supply is a collection of less pure seeds which retain the same practical use, but cannot be grown and cultivated by a Botanist. Using just four of these potent seeds, a skilled Botanist can cultivate a Compaction Seed Supply.

When a typical living or undead creature eats a Compaction Seed, he or she will shrink to a tiny size, comparable to a Picori. When a Picori or Picori-sized creature eats a seed, he or she instead increases to a height of a little over three feet (or a little over one meter). This effect lasts about a minute for every seed eaten, after which point the eater returns to their normal size.

When used by a Botanist, these seeds are useful for creating an effect related to the Transform field. It is particularly associated with effects related to changing size.

Weaponsmith and Outfitter

Unlike most seeds, a Compaction Seed can be used as a material by a Weaponsmith or Outfitter.

Either a Weaponsmith or Outfitter can imbue two Compaction Seeds into any object item they can craft. In doing so, the resulting item can then shrink when the wielder of the item wills it so, and similarly returns to full size whenever the wielder wills it. The item will shrink down to somewhere between 1% and 10% of its normal mass and weight. The shrinking or growing process will take less than a second, but will fail if blocked by a solid object. For example, the wielder couldn't shrink a tunic while he is wearing it.

Using only one seed enables the item to shrink, but doesn't allow it to return to its normal size. Using more than two seeds has no benefit.

Seed Effects

By using three Compaction Seeds, along with at least three other seeds, a Botanist is able to create a Seed Supply with one of the following effects. These effects will combine with the effects of other seed types used as materials.

Effect Name Description of Effect
Compact The normal effect of a Compaction Seed occurs.
Color The created supply of created seeds comes in a multitude of different colors. When a being ingests on of these seeds, he or she magically changes color to match the color of the ingested seed. If a single object of moderate size is impacted by one of these, it similarly changes color to match the seed. In either case, this effect only lasts for a few minutes. The effect can be removed by treasures which alleviate curses, or replaced by a Color Seed of a different hue.
Growth When the seed impacts a physical object, that object increases in height, width, and depth by about 50%. Its volume increases appropriately, but its weight increases only slightly. The object remains in this enlarged state for couple minutes, before returning to its original size. This doesn't affect a living or undead being.

Elixir Effects

Compaction Seeds can also be combined with specific quantities of other seeds to create a PerQuest Elixir with one of the following effects. As usual, the Botanist is able to produce multiple elixirs if her Botanist level is high enough.

Elixir Name Seeds Resulting Effect
Plentiful Water 1 Compact + 1 Chill This bottle can be dumped out to produce enough cool, clean, refreshing water to create a pond or fill a small room, roughly 100 cubic feet (or nearly 3000 liters).
Vacuum Jar 1 Compact + 1 Gale When this bottle is uncorked to the left, the mouth of the bottle creates an amazing suction that pulls with great force anything towards it, with enough force to knock over a Hylian from teen feet (or about nine meters) away. Large items may become trapped on its mouth, while smaller items get sucked inside--and may clog it if too many items are sucked. When this bottle is uncorked to the right, the mouth instead bellows forth a tremendous gale which blows with comparable force. In either case, the effect continues regardless of whether or not the bottle is held, and will eventually end on its own after a couple minutes.
Bottled Darkness 2 Compact + 2 Smoke By uncorking or breaking this bottle, a blanket of superficial darkness floods the area. This is enough to fill almost any enclosed room, and can cover an entire city block if used outside. This supernatural darkness extinguishes any light within its borders, but does not prevent abilities such as Sense or Nightvision, and can be seen through clearly using a Lens of Truth. After a couple minutes, the darkness will pass.

Other Effects

By using 5 Compaction Seeds as materials, a sufficiently skilled Botanist is able to craft a Compaction Bud.

In various quantities, a Botanist can use Compact Seeds alongside Bomb Seeds and Dodongo Hide to create a Bomb Bag, and several other similar or related treasures, including a Bombchu Supply and Bombling Supply.

Trivia

  • The Compaction Seed (material) treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members.
  • Most Seed Effects and Elixir Effects are original creations of Hyrule Castle's members.
