Lens of Truth
Type Defensive Magical Item
Fields Illusion, Sense, Sheikah
Cost 15 rupees

A Lens of Truth appears as a purple magnifying glass. Several red markings adorn the glass, making it appear similar to one large eye. When one holds this magnifying glass, it enables them to see through all forms of illusion, as well as not being blinded by bright visual flashes, such as those from Deku Nuts. When activating this effect, the user can mentally designate certain illusions to not be affected.

In place of a Lens of Truth, the user may instead choose to gain a Cross, which appears as a white-colored cross small enough to hold in one hand. Its effect is identical to that of the Lens of Truth.

Augment

Communal
Cost 15 rupees

The user can gain the Communal augment simultaneously with the original treasure for an additional cost, or as a separate treasure at a later time.

While the user is benefiting from the Lens of Truth or Cross, he or she can provide the same benefit to any creatures he mentally designates within the same general area. The affect creatures cannot control which illusions they do and do not see, unlike the user. The affected beings need not be aware of this effect, and cannot willingly negate it unless they, too, have a Lens of Truth or similar effect.

As a Material

An Outfitter can use a Lens of Truth or a Cross as a material to craft a piece of Headgear or an accessory, such as goggles or a helmet. The created item should have a visor which, when peered through, activates the normal effect of negating illusions and bright flashes. This frees up the user's hands to hold items instead of holding the magnifying glass.

When this treasure is used as a material, it cannot benefit from the Communal augment.

Trivia

  • This treasure's ability to see through illusions is comparable to the Hero's Charm treasure, which is used to see information.
  • A Botanist is able to modify Smoke Seeds so whoever eats one temporarily sees through illusions, as if using a Lens of Truth.
  • The Lens of Truth treasure canonically appears in the Zelda series, initially in Ocarina of Time. More information about the canonical version of this treasure can likely be found on Zelda Wiki.
