Alter Shadow is a simple illusion the user can create simply by thought, and can be used repeatedly and endlessly with only a bit of concentration.

So long as the user has a visible shadow, she is able to cause it to appear like virtually any other object or being. A small Kokiri child could cause her shadow to appear like a greatsword-wielding Darknut, or vice versa. Similarly, the user is able to bend her shadow to be longer, shorter, or wider. With practice, she can even portray complex images with her shadow. The user can even twist the shadow around her body, defying where light would dictate it fall.

The user cannot control her shadow if she completely leaves the ground on which the shadow falls, as this causes the shadow to return to normal instantly. While on the ground, the user cannot cause her shadow to separate from where her body touches the ground.

An altered shadow is an illusion, and as such anyone using a Lens of Truth will see only the user's regular shadow. An altered shadow cannot be used in tandem with a treasure which depend on a shadow's position and shape, such as Tendrils of Darkness or Shadow Dive.

Trivia

  • Altered Shadow's ability to manipulate shadows is similar to Tendrils of Darkness. The latter is not merely an illusion, and can use the warped shadow to afflict foes, but has much more severe limitations on the shapes it can assume.
  • The Alter Shadow treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy.
