Southern Hyrule is one of the three major regions considered to be part of the civilized world, alongside Northern Hyrule and the Eastern Sea.

In modern times, Southern Hyrule is known for being ravished by the recent invasion of Ganon. The previously flourishing Hylian settlements of Kakariko, Kasuto, Rauru, and Saria were all destroyed or conquered by his forces, leaving in their wake hazardous ruins still patrolled by Ganon's forces. Even though the King of Evil has remained quiet in the past few years, his forces and other monsters still roam the Southern Fields, forcing Hylians and Gerudo into hiding in the Western Caves or defending the Eastern Caves. In the wake of Ganon's initial invasion, they've even managed to recapture and rebuild Ruto.

On the western edge of this region lies Kokiri Forest, which through great effort and luck remained mostly unaffected by the invasion. There, Kokiri, Deku Scrubs, and Koroks live safely and peacefully under the wisdom of the Great Deku Tree.

Near the eastern border of the region are the Stone Towers, Ikana Valley, and Monster Village. These regions are infamous to outsiders for inhabiting civilized monsters, including the likes of intelligent Moblins, gentle Stalfos, and wise Poes.

Between Ikana Valley and the Kokiri Forest, at the southernmost border of the civilized world lie the Lower Wilds. These lowland praries are roamed by ferocious Lynels, Moblins, and other feral monsters both affiliated with and independent of Ganon, who frequently war among themselves and raid any trespassers of their fields. Relying on brutality and savagery, these beasts are a stark contrast to the nearby residents of Monster Village. According to legend, Ganon himself originated south of this wilderness in some unknown region.
