Knuckle Rock is but a small island to the east of the Hyrulean continent, one of numerous isles among the waves of the Great Sea. Though it was once an uninhabited rocky isle only a few miles across, it has in recent years rapidly become arguably the best, most fortified city in the known world. Shortly after Ganon began his invasion of Hyrule, the city was founded by a group of reformed Darknuts who found their way into the sea. Some of these men were indeed created by Ganon's forces, while others were magically created by unrelated mages. Like virtually all Darknuts, they held a strong sense of duty and martial expertise, and wished to find a purpose in their life. It is seemingly for this reason they created a fortress for Darknuts, by Darknuts, who wish to be the proudest and strongest warriors the world has ever seen--serving no purpose other than the own strength of their kind. As one might expect from such willful people, Knuckle Rock is highly organized with intense defensive military pursuits.

Since its inception, the population has grown very slowly, as Dakrnuts themselves have no means of reproducing. The city only grows when Darknuts--or occasionally other races willing to prove themselves--abandon their former lives to finish the rest of their days in highly organized, intense lives striving for their own strength and the strength of Knuckle Rock. The city is mostly self-sufficient in that it fishes for its own food, but does trade with other villages for metals and other necessary materials. With imposing steel walls, cannons, and a population comprised completely of expert soldiers, Knuckle Rock may be the single most militarized place in all the world. As the rumor goes, Ganon himself never attempted to invade it nor make an example of Darknut betrayers simply because the isle itself is so incredibly impenetrable.

Although the population is mostly Darknuts, there are a handful of other races who live among them by their own choice, albeit as second-rate citizens. Particularly willful Stalfos, Gorons, Yeti, Rito, and Moblins are the most common to both want this sort of life, and be strong enough to prove themselves worthwhile to the city.
