The appearance of a Terror Mask varies from one viewer to another, as it is always maintaining an illusion that depends on who perceives it, though it always takes the form of a disturbingly realistic mask. A Lens of Truth can negate the illusion, which causes the mask itself to appear as nothing but semitransparent white cloth.
Fitting to its name, whoever views the Terror Mask will see the visage of whomever or whatever the viewer fears most. The illusory face is always something the viewer has either seen or imagined. The illusion is disturbingly realistic, even gaining facial expressions or mouth movements reflecting the bearer's true face underneath.
The Terror Mask is commonly used to thwart animals or other beings with low intelligence as, to them, it likely appears as a dangerous predator. Resolute, willful, and intelligent beings may be shaken by the visage they see, but are usually wise enough to realize the truth of what they are seeing and overcome their fear if necessary.

- An Outfitter can treat a Terror Mask as a material for the purpose of combining its effects with other materials or treasures into one item of the Headgear field. When determining how many materials the Outfitter can craft into one item, treat this item as though it had a set cost of 12 rupees.
