Summon Weapon is a versatile summoning spell. It requires about a second of concentration, and the user to have an empty hand. Once the spell is cast, a weapon imagined by the caster appears in her hand. There are several limitations to the weapon, however:

  • The weapon cannot have multiple separate parts. A longbow could be summoned, but an arrow could not be summoned alongside it.
  • The weapon must be explicitly designed for a martial purpose. Although a steak knife could be used to attack someone, it is not intentionally a weapon, and thus cannot be summoned by this spell.
  • The weapon must be explicitly designed for handheld use. Even though a cannonball is a weapon, it is not designed to be wielded and thus cannot be summoned by this spell.
  • In total, the weapon's length must not exceed the caster's height, and its mass cannot exceed a quarter of the caster's mass. (When specifically creating a polearm, however, the limitation on height is doubled, and the limitation on mass is halved.)
  • If the weapon is broken or destroyed, it will instantly disappear. The caster will be prevented from summoning a replacement for about 30 seconds.
  • If the weapon persists for over a minute's time, it will instantly disappear. The caster will be prevented from summoning a replacement for about 30 seconds.

Despite these limitations, the summoned weapon can possess aesthetically unusual qualities for Hyrule; such as a ghostly image, or a glowing violet aura. These qualities often reflect the personality of the caster. Regardless of how it appears, the weapon is generally of good craftsmanship, and is composed material that may meet but not exceed the strength of steel. It cannot include any special or unique materials.

Under normal circumstances, a caster can summon no more than one of these weapons at a time. Attempting to summon a new one will normally replace the previous. However, gaining Summon Power once allows the caster to summon up to two weapons, and gaining Summon Power a second times allows up to three weapons. Each summoned weapon fills a single "summon level" granted by Summon Power; this may prevent the caster from summoning other creatures or objects.

Augments

The user can gain the Weapon Power or Permanence augments simultaneously with the original cost, or as a separate treasure at a later time.

Weapon Power

Weapon Power
Additional
Cost
15 rupees

This augment can be gained twice. Each time this augment is gained, the user can summon one additional weapon, as if she possessed one more level of Summon Power exclusively for Summon Weapon.

One caster can possesses up to two instances of Weapon Power and up to two instances of Summon Power. In such a case, she would have two "summon slots" exclusively for this spell, and three more "summon slots" which can be used for any summoning spell. This would allow up to five weapons to be summoned simultaneously.

Permanence

Permanence
Additional
Cost
10 rupees

With this augment, one weapon the user summons can exist permanently. It will only disappear if the user wishes it, if it is destroyed, or if it is struck by Expel Glass.

If the user is otherwise able to summon multiple weapons, this augment can be gained multiple times. Each time it is gained, one additional weapon can exist permanently.

Trivia

  • This spell can be treated as though it was Courage-based if the user has Summoning Songs.
  • A summoned weapon will be banished if struck by Expel Glass.
  • Summon Weapon can be seen as a more limited version of the more expensive Summon Implement, which can summon a wider variety of objects.
  • As with normal weapons, a summoned weapon can be animated by Animate Weapon, or affected by spells like Fire Enchantment and Weapon Curse.
  • The Summon Weapon treasure does not appear verbatim within the official Zelda series. However, it can be interpreted to exist from context.
