As its name suggests, Whirlpool enables the user to create a magical whirlpool in any suitable body of water, or other fluid with similar consistency.

To create the whirlpool, the caster must physically point towards where it is to appear, either with her bare hand or some other pointing implement. Assuming the designated surface is of a suitable fluid, a glowing white mark will appear upon the surface momentarily. Over a brief period, a whirlpool will begin to form. Precisely how long it takes depends on the size of the whirlpool, and the whirlpool's maximum size depends on the size of the body of water.

In a lake or sea, the whirlpool takes about 10 seconds to fully form, but is so powerful that even a very powerful swimmer would be pulled under with little chance of escape--yet not so powerful it could sink a large, sea-faring vessel. By contrast, if the whirlpool formed in a wine glass, it would occur almost instantly, but be so weak it could barely sink an origami boat.

When creating the whirlpool, the caster can mentally choose for the whirlpool to be less than its maximum size, if she so desires. Once the whirlpool begins to form, however, the user loses all control over it, and it will persist on its own for several minutes. While it persists, the caster cannot normally create another whirlpool.

This treasure is a racial perk for River Zora. As such, a River Zora can choose to gain it as a perk upon character creation. If a River Zora chooses to gain this perk at some point after creation, the perk costs 15 rupees less than the listed cost.

Augments

Multiwhirl
Additional
Cost
10 rupees

The user can gain the Multiwhirl or Ship-Sinker augment(s) simultaneously with the original treasure for an additional cost, or as a separate treasure at a later time.

With the Multiwhirl augment, the caster is able to create one additional whirlpool simultaneously. This augment can be gained multiple times, potentially enabling her to create numerous whirlpools at once.

Ship-Sinker

Normal Cost

W5: 40 rupees
W4: 50 rupees
W3: 60 rupees
W2: 70 rupees
W1: 80 rupees

With the Ship-Sinker augment, the caster is able to create drastically more powerful whirlpools. In a sea or other very large body of fluid, the maximum whirlpool takes a full minute to form, but is so powerful it can sink practically any ship without magical or extraordinary capabilities. This particularly powerful whirlpool will persist for about 10 minutes.

Even with the Multiwhirl augment, the caster cannot create a Ship-Sinking Whirlpool if another whirlpool of hers persists. Similarly, she cannot create a lesser whirlpool if a Ship-Sinking Whirlpool of hers persists.

Trivia

  • Similar spells for magically creating natural phenomenon include Tornado, Tremor, and Spire, among others.
  • The Whirlpool treasure does not appear verbatim within the official Zelda series. However, it can be interpreted to exist from context.
