Animate weapon is a spell used to levitate and control a handheld melee weapon without touching it. It takes just under a second to cast, and requires the caster to hold and wield the weapon she wishes to animate. Only one weapon can be animated at a time. A weapon which consists of more than one object (such as a bow and arrows) cannot be animated. Otherwise, any weapon the user could wield in a good state of health can be animated, whether it's a tiny knife or a huge lance.

Once the weapon is animated, it initially floats near the caster. Its movements are controlled entirely by the caster's thoughts, as if she was moving an unseen limb. The weapon can be levitated out to a distance of up to fifteen feet (or five meters) away from the caster--in any direction, even straight up into the air. If the user is somehow forced a further difference apart from the weapon, control is severed, and the weapon returns to normal.

At all times, the weapon moves naturally, as if wielded by an invisible person. So long as the caster has the multitasking skill necessary to do so, she may animate a weapon while performing other actions. Holding an animated weapon still requires only as much concentration as holding a normal weapon still in her hand.

If an animated weapon is struck with great force, the caster can be forced to lose control of it. Generally, the force must be so great that the caster would not have been able to maintain control over the weapon if it was gripped in her hand.
