Leaf Puppet is a defensive spell, and a racial perk for Skull Kids. As such, a Skull Kid can choose to gain it as a perk upon character creation. If a Skull Kid chooses to gain this perk at some point after creation, the perk costs 15 rupees less than the listed cost.

To cast this spell, the caster focuses his magical energy to a leaf he holds in hand, then throws it forward. In a poof of smoke, the leaf abruptly transforms into a wooden mariontte similar in size to a Goron. This marionette appears to hang on strings, like a normal puppet, even though no such strings appear; because of this, it effectively is able to hover at a speed comparable to a jog. The marionette's face bears some freakish resemblence to the caster's. Its movements are unnatural, abrupt, and uncanny. This "creature" is not alive, but lacks the traits of an undead. It has a very simple mentality, as it will only move around as ordered, and can only "attack" by smashing its wooden body into enemies. It can easily be defeated with solid attacks, causing it to turn back into a harmless leaf.

You always have at least one summon level. The number of summon levels you have represents how many summoned creatures you can simultaneously maintain. A summoned Leaf Puppet occupies one summon level, until it dies or is dismissed. In this way, the Leaf Puppet "fills" one of your summon levels. While your summon levels are completely filled in this way, you cannot summon any more creatures. You can gain more summon levels through the Summon Power treasure.

The user can gain the Multiple Puppets augment simultaneously with the original treasure for an additional cost, or as a separate treasure at a later time.

For each time this augment is gained, the creator can summon and simultaneously maintain an additional Leaf Puppet, up to a maximum of two with only one summon level. That is, both Leaf Puppets still occupy only one summon level. By increasing one's summon levels, even more summoned puppets can persist simultaneously.

Trivia

  • The Leaf Puppet treasure canonically appears in the Zelda series, initially in Twilight Princess. In that game, it was a spell used by a nameless Skull Kid.
