Magic Dart is an offensive spell which may be used to manifest magical darts and fling them at enemies.

The spell is cast by pointing a finger at the target and concentrating on the spell for a brief moment. The dart will form and fire from the caster’s fingertip almost instantly. Magic Darts are comparable in size and power to blow-darts, travel at roughly the same speed, and as such cannot be launched very far. As a result, the darts do relatively little damage unless they strike a vital spot or a vulnerable organ like an eye. They are inherently somewhat inaccurate, akin to firing a weapon from the hip. Immediately after a dart strikes an object, it vanishes from existence.

The main advantage to using Magic Darts is that they bypass almost any unnatural defenses. They will pass through armor without damaging it, and utterly ignore magical defenses such as barriers. The darts can still be reflected by effects like Mirror Shields or the Nayru's Affection spell. Any defenses that are still part of a living creature will still function--including the coarse rocks on a Goron's back, or a shield made out of a still-living plant.

A spellcaster can typically fire up to ten Arcane Darts per minute, but never more than one per second. With one level of Magic Power, ten Arcane Darts may be fired within forty seconds. With two levels, ten may be fired every twenty seconds. Any finger may be used to fire a dart; if the caster lacks fingers, their hand may be used with reduced accuracy.

The user can gain the Hands-Free Casting augment simultaneously with the original treasure for an additional cost, or as a separate treasure at a later time.

This augment enables the user to cast Arcane Darts without using fingers. Instead, the darts manifest freely anywhere within a foot of the user’s body, and are fired exactly where the user’s eyes are pointing. This makes the spell far more accurate against stationary targets, although the lack of control after firing means the darts are no more useful against a dodging opponent.

Trivia

  • Magic Volley can be seen as a much more powerful, but more costly version of this spell.
  • The Magic Dart treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Cataphractoi.
